Everyone lets critique needsize's physique

needsize

Elite Mentor

This was taken yesterday, there were a bunch more shots taken but they're on another roll of film so I'll have to wait to get it developed.

For those that don't know me, I trained naturally for 10 years until doing my first cycle less than a year ago.

in this pic, I am 5'9", 218lbs, not sure of bodyfat

Anyone know how to post these fullsize instead of thumbnail?

A little more fullness on medial deltoids and a little more size on lateral tris and you are gold. Nice wheels.

thanks, my left delt is actually bruised and swollen pretty bad from a bad shot I did yesterday (I posted about it on the anabolic forum yesterday)
I want to take another year to add more mass before trying a local level 1 show, so I'm trying to figure out which areas I need to hit the hardest.

Beastboy, I just tried to register for the free site and it wouldn't let me

I am guessing your BF at 8 to 10 percent in that pic.

First off, you are lookin good. Not here to rip you, cause you look great, but since you asked. The first two things that jumped out at me are a need for tricep and calf increases.

Everyone of course wants more overall body thickness, but proportionally speaking, I would say bigger tris and calves.

But you look way better than me, and I am not one to criticize.

B.

lookin good, i noticed the calf thing that bench monster said... but than again almost everyone lacks in calves...very few people have calves that are proportionate to the rest of the body...

upper body looks good, quads are lookin nice too

Need a larger gut, fatter face, beer in your left hand and..umm...

Wait....that is a strongman...nevermind...lol

You look great man. It is hard to judge shoulder size from that pic for sure. It is hard to make your shoulders look big when you crunch your chest like that. Do you have any other pics? I don't mind posting them for you...

I would first like to say that you are lookin' good, and your physique is much better than mine. I'm just doing whatcha asked.

I have to agree with BenchMonster abou the calves. It was the very first thing I thought about. I'm pretty sure that you blast them but that is weakest link on your body.

Other than that I have no quarrels or beefs. I think that you have done a great job.

You look really good dude. I think everyone touched on what I was going to say as well. Keep on growing.

... Oh, one thing, upload some more poses of yourself. Then you could get a full critique of everything.

Thanks guys, I do have more shots, just need to get that roll of film developed and I'll post a few more. I have been focusing on calves for the past year, but the goddamn things just don't want to grow. Triceps is something that I forgot about, but you're right, in a front double bi shot my bi's and tri's look the same size, but the tri's should look bigger so there is some work to do.
This is why i'm taking another year too add hopefully at least another 20lbs before attempting a local competition

re calfs

hey needsize...

First off great picks lots of hard work there .... Just wondered what rep range your using on your calf exercises? I find for me personally that my calfs dont respond to anything under 15 reps and that I have to pile on the weight in work in that rep range and higher... Once again,, sweet job

Thanks, I hit them heavy in the 12-15 rep range, and split them up into 2 workouts, one that consists of mostly standing work, the other is mainly seated stuff with the knee at a 90 degree angle. I was gaining some size on them, but when I started to diet and do cardio, I lost 1/2 inch right off the bat

I think that your calves actually look pretty good compared to your boneframe. Look at your ankles and the size of your feet...your calves are a lot bigger than your ankles.

You have big quads (teardrops) which make your calves look smaller from that angle too. It is very hard to flex your calves when you are flat footed for sure. The RAZOR might help a lot with the look...

I lightened up your pic a bit and it did make you look a little different...but you can see that you aren't really lacking in much at all...

Looking good, good shape and proportion.

Overall your calves need to be bigger, both the gastrocs and the shin muscles at the front.

For this particular pose, some extra triceps size and side delt width would help round it out nicely. But overall pretty good - your chest is big enough to blend in with the front delts.

Excellent traps

You have a very similar type of frame as me, same height too :)

I'm tyelling ya, if you want the surefire to blow up your calves get something like the strength shoe or Jump soles and walk in the them. If you can take the burn you will add inches to your calves in 2-3 months no sweat. Start with 5 mins 3 times a week and build up to 30-45mins.

Size isn't everything - you can compete now and do very well in a local show! You need practise, so get the first one out of the way. You can learn a hell of a lot in the first one you enter - things like how dark to get, what oil is best, poses you need to learn to do etc etc. Work on posing, most BB'ers have crap posing smoothness :)

I am no where near you, but I agree with the rest of the guys, your calves need to be brought up, however maybe the angle of the legs doesnt help as u cant really see them full on if you get my meaning.

Other than that, I think that you are looking awesome and are a great inspiration.

Keep up the hard work and dedication

Respect

i am curious, how are you guys adequately judging needsize's calves from a pic from the front, i couldn't tell much at all about them. pic looks great to me. i would like to lighten it as bfold did and look at it, pretty dark on the comp here at work.

How about this...does this look better??? Brad Pitt with muscle? :)

Thanks, it does look a little better lightened up. There are a bunch more pics on the other roll that are getting developed, so I'll post them when I get em, hopefully this board can help me get ready for next year.
Brian, the calves are muscular when flexed, but still way too small, for symmetry they are supposed to measure out to the same as arms, but there is a 2" difference.

Time to invest in a bushhog and a tractor...then get some razors...:)

Nice bro

Looking very symmetrical. You have that over many competitors already. Quads are looking great. Its good to see a dude at your size that doesn't look like a lawn dart. I think if you hit calves first on leg day, you'll be a badass on stage in no time.

Thanks

The responses here are so much more constructive than when I posted this on the anabolic forum

By the picture I can see that the way you are standing gives the impression that your delts are out of angle... meaning one is higher than the other, so we can't really know if its the lighting... the way you stand or that they are really like that.
I would recommend to take your pictures daylight so that you take advantage of natural light because sometimes flashes just don't fill all shades.... and it's difficult to see proper definition and size of other muscles
On the other side, I can spot (from the picture) your right calf bigger than the left one... at least that's what it seems... and agreeing with the other comments you have received, more size on calves could be good, specially if you're searching for symmetry.
Are you going to compete? try to practice your posing in front of the mirror so that pictures reflect (more or less) what judges will be looking at.

nikkita, a lot of the problem is the posing, I love to train but I don't pose much, I forgot how difficult it can be to do them right, but luckily I've got lots of time to practice. I did get the rest of the pics developed, so as soon as I get them scanned I'll get them up so you guys can get a more complete idea of what I look like from different angles. In looking at the pics, I can see some areas that need work that I never noticed, so getting more opinions would help

I think the forearms need a little work, but mayb e it is just the pose. You cant see the belly of the muscle too well.

Other than that it looks great. I think your calves are fine. Compared to the size of your ankles they look great, I think you probably just have very big quads.

I suggest you go buy a cheap digital camera

Instant feedback, no scanning or developing needed, feeds straight to the PC.

from competitions I've been to and by asking to guys, it is more than having the muscles... it is how you pose them too, they call it "the art of illusion" because by posing them well you can sort of cover small flaws and give the illusion of perfect symmetry. Watch videos of competitions or pictures at magazines and practice... practice... practice... in no time your posing will be so natural that we won't even know that you're not standing normal :)
