Ever feel like not working out anymore?

Just stopping everything cold turkey? I`m aching everywhere, I got a shoulder injury that won`t go away...

Taking pills, protein shakes, timing meals, don`t eat this, don`t eat that. It will also free up my time ALOT as well as my basement if I got rid of the Gym.

Anybody get this? I think I`m almost there. I`m just so tired... It could the 1AM hour as well.

Every fucking day.

I dont like working out, but I do it.

everyone goes through this... something always draws you back though.

That something is usually a neighbor or new co-worker how thinks they're buff, but not. And yet since you stopped he looks better than you.

I am not that strict. I don't time meals.. bodybuilding is not my life.. used to be.. but not anymore..

You need to take some time off!

I know you've heard this before.
But it really does a body / mind good. :D

or seeing 140 lb sticks walking around in wifebeaters and sleeveless shirts thinking they're huge

I quit lifting for 2-3 years once. Even now if I don't force myself to be there any longer than I feel like. If I want to skip a day I do; matter of fact I haven't lifted in close to a month now. Since I don't cycle much I don't lose much by taking breaks. I plan to coast thru Xmas then try to go solid for all of 2004. I watch my diet closing while on cycle but when I'm clean (which is probably 8 months a year all I do is the occasional protein shake.

The main reason I do it is I forget to eat, So I set my watch to go off every 3 hours.

Hey, HighIntensity is like 145!

Yeah, everyone thinks about quitting lifting

However, you cant meet physique goals without doing it

If I quit working out and ate like the average American, I'd blow up like a blowfish

I took roughly 3 months off because of personal probs and injury (and my membership ran out).

I just got back to working out last week. Today is my 5th time back. It is now 1:30am and I'm going to the gym now, pumped up and ready to go. Can't wait!

Take some time off and before you know it you'll be saying how much you are dying to get back to the gym.

NEVER

may be for like a week but then the fire is right there again

one time I got injured and it took me out of commision for 1 year or so, I could not go through that again I can't imagine how people get through their lives without running, and lifting...........

Yes That`s what I thought too. It`s been a month since I did a serious workout. I took 2 weeks off and did nothing and I`m still not feeling it.

I`m not just considering it, I`m GOING to the darkside. At 35 I`m ready.

you been natural all this time?

I took 8 months off this year due to being worn out,and not being able to afford a membership and now that I am back things are great, not only do I weigh the most I ever have but I have passed all my pr's and gained 15lbs with minimal bf gain since september

the break will def do you good, or just watch pumping iron and get motivated

Yes bro, I did alright But now I`m really feeling it dragging me down. I need some help. My body`s not the same anymore.

one thing you gotta do is work out for you... make sure it's for you and not for any other reason... that will rejuvenate you as well.

Thanks for all the help bros. It`s really tough for some reason. It was never like this for me. I actually asked my wife "What if I stopped working out and got rid of all the equipment from the basement?" You should have seen the look on her face. lol Like she saw a ghost. It`s messed up.

I`ve been "lazy" before but this is different. thanks again guys I better get some sleep.

if you truly have the bug, you'll never ever give up weight training... it just might take a backseat sometimes to other pursuits/injury/illness/children etc

I use to get too philosophical about my training. I would question the true value, purpose, meaning, of it. It took all the joy out of it. As you get older, you just accept yourself for the way you are and it's easier to enjoy the things that you do.

I got to that point in september....so i took a month and a half off and have never felt better. I am also back to the gym with a veneance.

Ate like shit, didn't train....loved every second of it.

I dont know what the hell i would do with all my extra time if i didnt train. Ask yourself what would you replace it with? You cant just stop something thats a regular part of yur life without subsituting it with something else that is meaningful.\

Maybe you could take up bowling LOL

good point:D I would never quit.

Nothing is going to keep me away from the weights, but I had planned on jogging today. Sometimes, I'd go to the gym just to get my 2 aerobic workouts in for the week.

But I don't feel like jogging today, because it's too FUCKING COLD! outside and I live in the country now and I only drive to the gym 3 times a week max. I'm going to build a gym and get a treadmill at my house.

nope....i love it.

i've had lay offs, and set backs....but I always come back

exact same here, I'll never ever stop, I'm gonna be either the guy that dies young cos of some stupid gym related thing or the 75 year old guy in the gym who is till more hardcore than anyone.

Gonelifting, maybe it is time to change your routine/style of training......perhaps look into serious grip training or something else, remember there are so many physically incapable people who would love to be able to work out, count your blessings and redouble your efforts.

yep, sometimes that's necessary. although i haven't taken a month off yet, after a week or 2 i can't wait to get back to the gym. although i may let my diet slip for a little longer.

When I feel this was I simply stray for a bit. Or relax my bbing lifestyle. Maybe only workout 1-2 times per week instead of 4-5. Eat what I want when I'm hungry instead of eating specific foods every 2 hours. ANother thing that usually helps is getting drunk off my ass for a weekend. After that I feel so guilty I think of nothing but getting back in the gym. Mix that with seeing all the slobs in the bars and I'm dedicated again

I've never felt like giving the iron up, but I do get lax in my workout schedule from time to time. Usually I lift every other day, but there are weeks where I'll only get two (or even one) workout in. I don't worry about it, but then I'm not anywhere near as hardcore (or big for that matter) as most of the guys here.

The way I see it, I lift for myself and myself alone, it's a personal challenge. If I don't feel like it one day then I don't have to. The urge to lift always returns real soon though, because the need to see if I can get more weight up is always there. I make slow progress now at 31 years old and all natural for my whole life, but it's still a personal challenge. My diet is the same way, I eat very healthy most of the time but every now and then I need some cookies or ice cream.

But then again, I don't need a professional bodybuilding physique, it's not that important to me. For some, it is all that matters and my way of lifting would not cut it.

Exactly. Before, I would work out, but I wasn't seeing any improvements, and I was always comparing myself to others in the gym that had what I wanted (bigger chest, arms, hell- the whole body)

I changed my attitude, and only compared myself to where I was. Was I making any changes, and did I like them.

I still go and give it my best, and now I am seeing real results, which motivates me even more.

Hope it works out for you, and you come out of your slump.

I don't get too drunk but usually when I go to a college party or when I went to music things with a past women I dated and see all the people there and see how their actvities at present are an exercise in futililty, falsness, and insincerity, and amorality

it gets my juices flowing and it just makes me better:)

Thank You all for the great responses. I tried giving many of you karma for the helpful words of advice and ideas, thughts, but could`nt.

Not to downplay anything that has been said and also Not to make this a "Help Poor Gonelifting" thread either, but I have done ALL those things mentioned. I`ve been lifting weights forever. I`ve done it all, I`ve FELT it all I`ve had every excuse, I`ve HEARD every excuse, I`ve kept going for YEARS and years. I`ve taken time off before I`ve gotten drunk and regretted it, I`ve looked at other people and said "I`ll never be like that".

It just feels different this time. It`s very sad. I think I realised I`m getting old. At 35 I know it`s not old, but for what I`m asking my body to do, It`s old. I may get over it who knows but how do you get over getting old? lol

It`s different this time. It`s sad actually. Thanks again everyone.

Bor, if your body is feeling it, then don't ask it to do more than it can.

God forbid if you get a tear somewhere. And don't feel bad about it either, I'm 40 and my body is still responding well to what I ask of it.

Keep plugging at it, but don't ask for the outrageous.

dont even think about it man!

if you stop all your energy was wasted.

i could never stop... it hurts... but thats what makes you strong.

life isnt about being comfortable... its about conflict and how you overcome it. the lesson in life is this for me.
