I believe that alot of very talented kids use AAS in highschool to their advantage. Kids who have a natural talent and aptidtude for the game who are obviously on a higher playing level than the rest BUT are not up to size standards of D1/D2 schools. Example a running back who is 5'8 (which is tall enough) but only 150 lb(shredded). Or a LB who is 6'3" but only 200 lb. Kids with metabolisms like bumble bees that just cant gain any more weight.
No matter the talent level they are just too small. Yes if a school wanted them bad enough they would take them and maybe red shirt them and try and invest time and pack weight and size on them. But its alot easier for a school to say yes when a kid is already bigger to begin with. Maybe the LB would make a good safety blah blah.... But the RB just gets to play at a DIII school and go on with life after. If the LB suddenly is just as talented at 235-240 or the RB is suddenly 190-200 then people will seriously notice.
I'm not saying its right or wrong. My dream was to play D1 ball. But in hind sight I was kidding myself. I was 6'0" 175 when I got out of school. Ran a 4.8 40. What the fuck was I going to do? Even if I was 220....not fast enough to be a safety or corner, not big enough to be a linebacker or DE, not big enough to be an impact blocking FB. So what...a fucking blocking TE? Lots of long term call for that....not. Me using in H.S. would have been a bad idea. even though I was a really good player with decent ability and aptitude for the game I wasnt at that level.
In regards to the OP's questions 1) obviously this kid isnt at "the" level either. 2) theres no way this kid is 6'1" 230 at 8%. Hell even sub 10%. This kid would be a fucking monster. Is 6'1" 230 at 8% even possible naturally anyways?? I'm thinking its doubtful. If they arent looking at him now then they arent going to start after AAS.
I will be in the same boat soon. I have a monster 11 yr old living in my house(5'6.5", 170 lb, size 11.5 shoe with a 405 leg press) thats going to grow into a 6'5" monster teenager whos dream is to play pro ball. Pending metabolism after puberty along with me stuffing him full of food, training, creatine, bcaa's ect will end up 275-300 pounds before H.S. is over.
