estimated bench 1RM

Manu

New member
I am searching for some site that has a table or calculation to know the 1 RM for bench press (entering for instance the weight for a 8 reps).
If anyone has this kind of info please post it.

Thanks

just one question.

80 % of 1RM is good for 8 reps?
and for 6 what would it be?

Let me share this with you. I just bench 1RM for 224 pounds (102 kgs), i know it is not much but it felt great and it makes me feel like i am strong...:-)

I was figuring a good weight for 8 and 6 reps based on this max.

Thanks

So...your 1RM is 224. Do you mean that you did 224 in the gym today or that is the estimated 1RM?

Those charts dont work for everyone though. I did 405 touch-and-go raw but I got 6 reps with 315 and the chart said that is 371. It depends on the person.

Exactly. I am a firm believer that the charts are NOT for real. Your weakest link may not show up when you are doing a light weight...but they may as you go heavier. It is not your 1RM till you actually do it!!!!

I am with Cytomel on this one. I realize I get a lot out of a shirt, but I have done 475, and missed 505 just on butt raise, have done a 550 3 board press, but since I can only do 225 for 17 reps, the huskerpower chart says I can only bench like 330 or so.

Don't put much faith in the charts. They are only accurate if you are average. Cytomel ain't average, and I ain't either. You may not be either.

i actually did it at the gym

I did it at the gym, the chart woudn't give me so much.
I didn't try to make the 1RM, i just kept adding weight and went to that, (making one rep at 224) but for me it was really nice.

Is it good to try to figure a good weight for 8 and 6 from that max?

Thanks.

P.S. What's the meaning of "touch-and-go raw" ?

Congrats on the PR!!!!

Touch and go means that you did not pause but did not bounce off your chest. Raw means that you did not wear a bench press shirt either.

Thank you B fold :-))

A little time i will be 300....

:dance2:

"it just sets limits in your mind of what you are capable of and holds you back" i think i understand what you mean.

Maybe i will try some westside stuff after vacations...even if by goal is getting muscular (BB's...) some real strenght can do no harm..then come back to a more "regular" routine...is this right?

Remember that the key is variation. WSB has enough variation for me, and it works for my goals...so I use it.

Try it, pick out what YOU like about it, and make it a part of YOUR routine.

It definetly depends on the person..I know for me it's almost right on I'm good for 560+ raw and the last time I benched I got 405x12 and it's real close.

"Try it, pick out what YOU like about it, and make it a part of YOUR routine. " - i will keep that in mind

That's amazing FitnessFrk, how much time a week you train bench press? you're doing westside program?

Actually Manu I had never heard of Westside until last year. But I've been weight training for 21 years. And I also used to PL.

In football we used a universal formula for both squats and bench but it turns out the formulas are different because of the varying proportions of fast and slow twitch muscle fibers.
