Energy to run

Any tips on how to keep my energy level going during a run. Say for a 2-4 mile run. Anything i should be taking, eating, dring, etc. before the run?
 
Eat normally. Hydrate (preferably with the stuff in my signature). That's not too far; you should be ok. Maybe a banana or three an hour before.
 
Good suggestion about the banana's, but i have been told to eat them after a run. Is there anything that anybody has found that gives them an extra kick of energy on a run? Let's just say if ya had to run 2 miles under a certain time. I usually don't eat before i run, so my stomach dosen't cramp up and i drink plenty of water pre-run. Im a horrible runner and would like to get my run time down, so i would like to push it out more during my run. I just don't have the energy+crappy breathing pattern to do it.
 
For my important runs of those shorter distances, I do the bananas an hour before, start downing a liter + of ultima an hour before and drink continously, about 80mg of Ephedrine, and 200mg of caffiene.

The E and caff will give you a big kick. I suggest that you don't do more than 40mg of E to start.
