do these work?i hear people say they dont sweat while on them, to me thats says u aint gonna lose weight if u aint got the intensity, will i lose one weight on these, are they better than a treadmill, thanks

sweating has nothing to do with calories burned. If your heart rate is at the same as it is while doing any other form of cardio then you are burning calories. Sweating has to do with your body temperature, that's all.

I find the elliptical works my legs alot more than a treadmill, however, the treadmill gives me more of a cardiovascular workout. Either is great though.

I sweat when on the elliptical.....I like the elliptical as it doesn't bother my knees as much as running, so I try to switch off from the treadmill to elliptical. If you're not holding on or using one where the handles move, then by adjusting your speed & the intensity/level, you can have just an intense workout....

I use a HR monitor when I do my CV and I burn pretty much the same cals on the elliptical vs. the treadmill in the same amount of time....

i have been doing elliptical for about 2 month now and it's amazing and i sweat very much, i cannot use the treadmill i have bad knees

I agree with the above... I love using the elliptical instead of the treadmill. I have awful knees and the impact kills me on the treadmill - but I find I get an equal workout on the elliptical..and I sweat and hurt just as much.

I love the elliptical I find it for the time I am on it I burn more calories than anything else.I am on there for an hour every morning and in that time I do 900 calories.I would hate to run for an hour so I have no idea how many calories I would do.I do it on level 11 usually for 1 hour.

IMO, elliptical is the best, hands down. I sweat like a pig on that damn thing and burn more cals on it than anything else. Not sure why people would say otherwise unless they are just prissing along at min resistance or something. I still switch between it and other cardio just to keep my body from acculimating to it.

IMO eliptical is one of the best cardio you can do allmost no impact and really gets my heart pumping. if at lo resistance do it faster and if at higher do it slower allys increasing resistance because your body gets use to the resistance. i also swim an hour a day in morning then usually swim with my kids for 1 or 2 hours in evning. just remember anything you do for cardio sooner or later you will have to go longer and harder to continue to build your body to its max.

They key to cardio is to exercise based on your heart rate. I has some issues running for a while - I was putting in tons of miles but I was stuck at 17:32 for my 5K time.

A semi-pro runner took me under his wing and made me go out and get a heart rate monitor. He designed my running schedule based on timed running at certain heart rate levels (and distance). My 5K time went down to 15:40 in three months by doing this.

At this point in my life I'd rather hit the bike or elliptical but I still use a heart rate monitor. If you are not training in your required range it is pointless.

Hitting the elliptical for 30 minutes at 80% of your max heart rate is better than hitting it for 2 hours at 50%

I use an elliptical with a HR monitor. My machine has interval programs and its real easy for me to get my HR up to 80% of max. I do 40 min per day.

Yeah when I want to drop fat and keep my muscle I use an eliptical. Running seems to thin out my legs to much and make me feel top heavy. If I use an eliptical for 45min by slowly raising the resistance, it makes me burn fat and sweat like crazy without the soreness/lightheadness of running
