I am not saying that this particular item works or does not work and nothing will replace crunches. But based on some newer theories of localized fat reduction. It seems to me that if one had a little extra flab around their abs - they could use electronic shock for an extended period every day and notice some fat reduction in that area.

Just a thought

EMS

You know I find it ironic that those you espouse the greatest condemnation of electronic muscle stimulation are those with the least knowledge of the technology. I just end up shaking my head in amazement as I continue to see all the misinformation, half truths, and total lack of understanding relative to EMS. I can tell you from personal experience it does work. No, it does not cause you to lose weight to any noticeable degree, nor does it provide "six pack abs", but it does tone and harden muscle, and increase circulation.

I in no way benefit from promoting EMS (electronic muscle stimulation), nor is it my goal to "convert" any non believers. My hope, in responding to the above posts, is to create an atmosphere where people really wanting to know the pros and cons of EMS will look a little farther that the demagoguery seen on here.

Don't pass judgement because you once strapped on one of the infomercial variety exercisers (i.e.. abenergizer, fastabs, abtronics), and therefore are an expert in the field. If you've dedicated considerable time to improving your physique through isotonic exercise, or aerobic exercise, or whatever your preferred exercise modality might be, don't label any alternative method without a more complete understanding. What's right for you may not be right for someone else. Just consider the following:

EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) uses electrical current to stimulate your muscles (passive exercise). This electrical current is similar to the electrical impulses produced by the brain to stimulate muscle tissue (active exercise). By placing the Electronic Muscle Stimulator on a particular muscle group, your muscles respond to the impulses that are generated, contracting and relaxing rhythmically, as instructed by you, through the unit. When a muscle contracts as a result of a unique EMS signal, the chemical changes taking place within the muscles are similar to those associated with voluntary contraction in "normal exercising". These chemical reactions, which result from muscle contractions, utilizes glycogen, fat and other nutrients stored in the muscle. These resulting series of muscle contractions will enable an individual to TONE, STRENGTHEN, and COMBAT FLABBINESS, WHILE IMPROVING CONTOUR.

Research studies conducted in the 1980's showed that the experimental groups that used electronic muscle stimulators increased strength at a greater level than the control groups that exercised! By no means is it recommended that anyone stop exercising in favor of using an EMS device, but research indicates that electronic muscle stimulators can greatly impact your fitness. Using EMS, in conjunction with a workout plan that includes cardiovascular exercise, and proper diet (nutritional considerations), will create the optimal conditions for total physical fitness.

This technology should not be viewed as an alternative, but as a supplement, to normal exercise. It does however provide many benefits on it's own. Anyone contemplating EMS training should observe all contraindications listed with any reputable EMS unit, before embarking on an EMS training program. It is recommended that EMS be utilized in conjunction with the advice of a trained professional, be it a physical therapist, medical doctor, or chiropractor.

I take it you sell the fucking things?

The post by GaryWary is typical of what I've been talking about!

No GaryWary, I don't "sell the things", which you might have learned had you read the entire post. And I don't run my mouth about something I haven't first studied and used. No one is asking you to try, or to use the technology, so my question is,
"Why are you so obviously convinced that someone who has benefited from it's use MUST be selling them?".

Yours profile indicates you are an elitefitness bodybuilder. Do you somehow find it hard to accept that many other of your fellow bodybuilders find it a beneficial supplement to their workout regimens? Accept it or not, there are a great many of other bodybuilders out there that do utilize the technology. But then again, why would you want to take the time to learn more about something you obviously don't understand. Just maybe it might reduce the time you have to make snide remarks of little or no relevant value. Keep up your good work! I'm sure your comments are of invaluable help to those that are really interested in learning more.

Let me refrase the question:

Has anybody used this with success because if it works I might strap it to my dick to see if I can make it bigger.

carp out..........

I doubt you will have any luck there . . . you're pretty hopeless when it comes to the lack of your "manhood"

Grizzly I must say I am with ya all the way.... I have a FastAbs Deluxe system I have had for around 3 weeks now, bought it on ebay for $40, thought it would be junk, but was wrong..although there are some negatives about it, I would come out giving it a thumbs up... I use it on my abs during cardio all the time... use it on my lower back right after training my lower back region.. OK, so this won't build muscle or make ya drop any body fat.. but I must say, my abs are a lot harder and stronger, and my lower back is a little stronger. Me being an amateur boxer I must rely on strong abs and obliques on defensive tactics.. I can take a hit to the ab/oblique region better than what i could 3 weeks ago, by no means does this take the place of my current ab or back routine, I just simply add this machine into the time i already spend at the gym and in the ring.. Their are some negatives i have noticed though.. Putting on Jelly everytime kind of sucks... the burning sensation and tingling sensation can get annoying as hell, noticed the area i put the fastabs on has gotton very red and sore... Well as long as this thing can last a while longer I will probably stick too it.. I can honestly say it's a feeling i have never felt before when this thing is workin, takes a while to get used to, but hey it works good enough for me... Peace

Only for those truly interested in learning more about the EMS technology, and it's relevance to muscle tone, strength, and rehabilitation, you might want to take the time to view the following article. It was referenced by skyline in one of his earlier post in a different thread on this site:

http://www.testosterone.net/articles/159ems.html

I've found this to be one of the best, and most thorough, articles on the web relative to the efficacy of EMS.

Glad you're seeing some of the benefits!

To The_LaDiEs_MaN,

It sounds that, like many, you are searching for ways to improve your physical condition, and muscle strength/tone. You are utilizing a technology which people are learning more about every day. You may not however be getting the full benefits of the technology with one of the infomercial models (although I can't say they are all bad). If you are experiencing burning, the unit is defective, or beginning to fail.

It sounds like the centerpiece is beginning to go bad. You would find that this is not a real problem with one of the upgraded models such as one I recently purchased (EMS 2000 or 4000), and you'll experience a much more thorough and intense workout.

If you'd like to learn more I highly recommend you read an article I recently discovered, and which I believe is one of the best to be found relative to EMS anywhere on the web.

Good luck with your fitness training, and in the ring!
