elbow pain!

Does anyone experience this, and if so have you been able to treat it effectively, or recover from it fully?
I have been benching heavy for years, in the 405 to 455 range for reps, 2 months ago I felt pain shortly after trying to do a heavy single with 495. My tendons were not ready for that weight, and now I'm paying the price.
I'm currently using a high dose of glucosamine sulfate, chondroiton sulfate, and MSM, in additon to aspercreme; it seems to be helping a little. It's amazing that my strength is still improving although I am training lighter (in the 10-15 rep range)
Any suggestions for treatment? Do you I need to stop all pressing movements for it to recover fully?
Thanks!

I had the same problem a few years ago after a long time of heavy lifting.....the best advice I can give you is use lighter weights....It took quite a while for me to lift pain free......

Actually I have had the same pain for a few years off and on. I took every combination of supplements you can think off and even therapy but nothing helped. At one point I was even on Deca, and yes it was definitely real and trust me on that one, and that didnt even work but that was due to putting on like 43lbs. in 8 weeks!! LOL!!

Anyhow, I happened to see Labradas new Elasti-Joint which is a powder that contains Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, and Gelatin but only comes in a nasty Fruit Punch flavour. I have been taking it for about a month now and it has really helped out my joints in both pain and recovery so I would try giving that a shot for your joint pain!!

Thanks, I have been using those supplements for the past 2 weeks, so it is good to hear that they may be helping. I buy the powders wholesale and mix them together in a ratio of 3:3:4 (GS:CS:MSM). I take one heaping spoonful (5000mg) 2x/day. Maybe this is why my other joint problems are subsiding, but I suspect my triceps tendon is very inflammed and partly damaged. I will back off on heavy weights for awhile and see what happens. Actually, I have been experiencing a new phase of growth lately using lighter weights.

The lighter training will make you stronger in the sense that it works different muscle fibres!! I like to alternate my training every so often especially when injured. I have recovered from tricep injury and what I did was laid off all types of presses and triceps totally and just trained everything else light. This gave them more rest and time to recover better without putting any strain on them at all!! It is a definite scrifice but it is better to heal them properly and as quick as possibly then to risk anything more!!

I feel that pain too. It is probably tendonitis. a sports medicine doctor told me to wear one of those forearm straps just above the elbow and below the belly of the bicep. Still you have to take it easy and don't bend your elbow all the way at the bottom of movements. good luck.

yea bro take you some DECA!!! everytime i take it, my joints get all lubed up. Some doses of deca and your joints should be feeling fine.:D

I have had this problem two times in my life. Once, I quit lifting for about 6 months and when I started, it was very slow. The pain was too much for me to continue lifting. I couldn't even wash my car without bad pain. The second time, I ran deca and it took it right away and has never been back since. Glucosamine plus MSM helped a little also, but deca is awesome. Everyone says it just masks the pain, but it certainly helped heal me.

BiggerthanU,

I've battled tendonitis in my elbow for the last fifteen years. A couple observations:

1- Ultimately, when it got really bad and wasn't going away, lighter weights for an extended period of time (couple months) fixed it
2- Low test levels will not allow you to fix it well. Increasing test levels will help.
3- The old DMSO after a workout then icing it helped me. Longer term, heat works too.
4- If you carry a consistently low body fat %, which I think you do, it will make the problem harder to solve. At low body fat, there is less cushion and "things" tend to rub together more. I was talking to a national level competitor in vegas a couple months ago when I was there (he was a casino dealer) and he said he was maintaining year round really low bodyfat and he began having joint problems in several places that he couldn't solve. Ultimately he let his fat levels come back up to around 10% or so, went lighter and he solved it.

Good luck with that, it sucks.....

Thanks for the info.
I had tried DMSO. I hate that stuff, but it did seem to help a little. The orthopedic surgeons I know recommend stopping weight training for awhile, but this is not an option I'll consider. I'll just avoid anything that causes severe pain, and keep the weights light while focusing on perfect form. I may try Deca as a last resort since I hear that almost everyone feels it help them recover.

I get a similar problem from time to time. My course of treatment is the same that we perscribe to our patients. Usually 7-10 days of taking something like Vioxx or Celebrex does the job fine. Lighter weights will help also, but I usually want a quick fix which is the reason I will use some Vioxx. 25mg a day of Vioxx is all you really need.

It has been 3 months since posting this thread and I'm still dealing with elbow pain. I bench only once every 2 or 3 weeks and usually only go to 315 for sets of 12-15. I get more pain from doing very light tricep extensions.
I am considering using Deca. Is there anyone else out there that feels Deca helped there tricep tendinitus?
...and if so, did the pain return after discontinuing Deca?

Is it on the inside or outside? I just got back form the doc and he really knew his elbows. I'm a regulat elbow expert now. I have reverse tennis elbow. He gave me a cortizone shot and some Ultrams.

Ugh! Hope you are prepared for future injuries.

I want to avoid cortisone and NSAIDS. I am using all the right supplements at relatively high doses, and I feel I am recovering...althought very very slowly.
The pain is at the outside tip of my elbow.
