elbow pain

my right elbow has been killing me and really bothering my bench. a bench shirt helps for some reason but when benching raw or doing tris my elbow screams. its cracking or poping on the way up and the way down and severe pain in the middle bottom of the elbow. I was planning doing some bench meets in may area and wanted at least 455. so can anyone tell me what is wrong or suggestions on what to do to make it better.-----i have more drugs then elvis presley(like vioxx, pain killers, muscle relaxers, celebrex, motrim and relefin). which of these or what else would help best.

First you need to find out what is causing the pain IE. which mivement is making it worse. I know that db skulls are what makes my elbows scream for a week and any pressing movements suffer because of it. Get some elbow sleeves ,use tiger balm or something of the sort and warm them up.

Second , you need to hook me up with some of those pills so we can both bench 445 at the next meet.

I hear good things from vioxx and celebrex.

A general suggestion is this...slow down your volume/work on your tris and all extra movements for a week to week and a half. See if it allows any progress of your bench and your elbow. For myself...any elbow problems have been a pre-sign of overtraining.

I think ya just need to stop being a SISSY and deal with it!!LOL:D

Just joking! I was having the same problem Bubba. Didn't see a Doc to find the cause, just started taking Gucosamine Chondroitin(2,000mg ed) and the pain stopped after about 4 wks. I've also found that now I need to do a few extra warm-up sets.

i find the number one aggravator of my elbow pain is squats. whenver i go over 600-700, its a battle to keep it in check.

are you using arm bands to squat?
are you turning your elbows down when you squat or flaring the straight out back?
are you giving yourself a squat day off 5 - 6 weeks or so? louie now recommends this....

when i added bands and changed to angling them down, my joint pain eased up.

i do NOT recommend cutting volume in tri work. i would cut weight down but keep the volume to get that healing blood in there.

/irish (thinking about getting a life on sat night instead of sitting at the computer)....

Well, I know if you use a lot of db extensions, like once or twice every week these can really upset your elbows. For me, skullcrushers killed my left elbow once the weight got heavy. Once I dropped these my elbow feels great, and now I'm stronger than ever.

Vioxx will kill the pain completely and will allow you to train through it. It's fucking awesome if your hurt and need to train or compete. But on the flipside, if you train thru it too much you can seriously hurt your elbow, permanently. I would start with some kind of rub on pain killer, if that doesn't work then try the vioxx. Once the vioxx wears out the pain returns though.

You might also try band pushdowns for rehab this pain by getting blood in there.

Elbow pain...

When I get pain it's tendonitis in the biceps & forearms. My elbows haven't really given me problems. My tendonitis is definitely caused by heavy squatting. The pain affects me when doing upper body movements. I take MSM, Glucosamine & Chondroitin (sp?) but my tendonitis still come's and go's. I've tried Vioxx but it didn't seem to do much for me. It could have been too low a dosage. I might try Celebrex. I would be careful with Vioxx. It has received bad press in the past month - something about meningitis (sp?).

Thats very easy to fix. Number 1 take the vioxe. Only when it hurt too bad. Too much actually hurt smy stomach! Ya knwo me i take a 50 pack of BC powers and for every 2 BC i take i take 3 ibuprohins. Anyway get elbow sleeves. They will keep the joint warm while we sit and wait to lift. I have no elbow pain since then.

Irish power just hit the nail on th ehead. MY squats totally fuck up my elbows and shoulders. I always were elbow sleeves when squatting. I have no choice. Right now its ok. I feel my most pain when the bar is loaded over 700. Our bar whips like a bitch. It looks i am about to fly away! SO it really shakes my joints up top.

i have been having elbow pain but i am pretty sure that it is the tendons just because of the location of the pain. bro if i was u i would go hit up a doc to find out what the problem is so u do no injure yourself more than u already are.

thanks everyone yea irish the squats works everything in the body some things good some bad i will try the elbows back and like pljay says get a real good elbow sleeve i will also try some type of rub mon before training to see if it helps then go home and ice it for a couple of hours yea mishon1 i go to doc at middle of april for my usual check up and i will have him check it out. southpaw se i think i will start glucosimine and alfalfa as well. bigokie i dont do any db ext hurts too bad but i was doing them before pains may have been a factor thanks bros

Yes get elbow sleves www.rehband.com they are $25 for each arm but worth every cent. I got these a few months ago and they work great. Three of the best benchers here wear them, they are sky blue in color and the best around. They are Sweedish so I dont understand their site but you can order them online from a few sites. No, I dont sell them lol You may have seen some of the WSM guys wearing rehband stuff you can see by the blue colors

Whats the differnece between them and say mueller arm sleeves other than price. My elbows are getting to the point where i can't even go heavy on pullling motions like rows iether. Today was the last straw. It hurts to do two of the best movements so much that i can't do theem , this sucks. I think i'm gonna drop speed bands and go with chains for a while.

Grimmer, I havent used the mueller ones so\ I cant comment on them. The rehband ones are thick, strong and durable. I saw some low cost elbow sleves at the S Authority and they look like nothing next to rehband. I guess the low cost ones would work for a 200 bencher but mabey not so well for a 400 or 500 lifter. It sounds like your elbow needs some rehab and I think you might want to cal
l elitefitnesssystems and talk to them about their stuff like a trigger wheel or something like that because they know about. those things.

Bands for 2 wks then chains for 3, then back.

I have the mueller ones and like them. Just could not afford the rehband ones at the moment.

Aka-tapout, SouthPawSE suggested glucosamine. I think this is
a good idea. AST makes a product called Pro-Flex. It contains
glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin sulfate and an antioxidant
alkaloid - proanthocyanidin.

I had really bad elbow pain. The triceps extensions killed my
left elbow. Cannot take pain killers as I have liver problems. I
thought I was going to have to live with the pain but I was
lucky and found the Pro-Flex stuff. It has made a big difference.
The pain has pretty much gone away. Pro-Flex is expensive
but worth it my case.

Hope this helps.

Yes i agree glucosomine does work. I used to were i had zero pain in my elbows. Now i just use anti infamatories when needed. BUt i use the cheap 6 bucks a piece ace elbow sleeves. I got mine at wal-mart. The reason i use then is really i do not want anything too tight or thick. I do nto wanna feel like they help at all. Basically i use them so that between are long rests my tris and elbopws stay warm. And on days i bench and do tris, they only come off for pushdowns. Other then that they are on the whole time. I do not use them when i shirt of course.

But you knwo i do a couple things that i hear no one mention. I ice and strecth. I do it at home while watching tv. But i got those twist off top ice bags. I got a couple of them i fill them with ice, ice my shit, and stick them back in the freezer. I probably change the ice in each one once a week. They will not completely melt in 20 minuites. Another trick is when you put the ice bag back in the freeszer let one end hang over somthing so it freezes into a little groove that fits nicely over knees or elbows or shoulders. I am telling you now ice is the best period. I have rehabed two fucked up shoulders. The last one i didnt really knwo if would bench with in the first 6 months of injury. And i am pretty close to 100% as of now. How? Ice, sometimes three times aday for 30 minutes a pop along with anti's. Ice is good but if you only do periodically its really defeats the purpose. Every day. Till pain is gone. While your doing that get some glucosomine, or alfalpha, or hell deca!

If it is bicep tendonitis, sometimes strengthening the brachioradialis can help. Hammer curls and reverse grip curls performed with a false grip. Also, specific strengthening of the forearm flexors and extensors can help alleviate certain types of elbow stress. Performing wrist curls and reverse wrist curls with a dumbbell and the forearm isolated (across a bench) may help.

MSM can sometimes work wonders.

thanks bros for all the tips----it worked---i used icy hot then a poly sleve that is for the knee(the arm one was way too small) and it cut pain by 75%. i am startin glucosmine and alfalfa and going to find that stuff geno-o mentioned. also like plj says i am icing the shit out of it

hahaha..

the arm band was too small....

where did you shop for it? a boys little league store?

well.. glad your pain is gone.

serious bro i put the arm band on and did a bench press motion and the damn thing almost shot off---velcro popping everywhere
jimie dean said you better get the knee one
they dont make things for big armed people---i used to take my blood pressure in stores and now my arm wont fit into machine i would need the fire department if i wedged it in there
