Eight Dead Bodybuilders in the Southern United States in the past year!!

While I think that steroids can be used safely, I think people are in denial if the write off that possibility that steroids were a factor in some of these deaths. Steroids themselves are not lethal, but they can accelerate heart disease. It doesn't happen overnight. It may take many years or even decades. Hard core BBers use large doses for long periods of time and many never come off. Most, if not all will experience negative changes in their cholesterol profile. There is a clear link between cholesterol values and heart disease. It certainly is the complete picture, but the evidence is substantial.

I do believe that people should take responsible for their own bodies. If someone wants to live their live a certain way and their lifestyle has a negative impact on longevity, than so be it. As long as those individuals are making an informed decision.

But when I see all these replies discounting that it might be possible that steroids were a factor in their death, it makes me wonder if people are truly making informed decisions.

For steroids to contribute to someones demise the likelihood of it happening very young (20's to 30's) is not that great...If we are talking 20+ years of usage cumulating into elevated cholesterol and then ultimately heart disaese that's one thing...But that probably ISNT going to happen to a young guy like this board is flooded with...

If it's not too much trouble can you show me the evidence of that?
Then if you don't mind, can you show me evidence that short term changes in lipid profiles lead to CAD?
This magazine only writes about amateur body builders, not pros. The athletes who are featured in the pages of this magazine would not fit the description you've written there as "Hard core BBers use large doses for long periods of time and many never come off."

Buckwheat, anything can be abused, and, yes, the pros abuse steroids. Over a long term, if they elevate a person's cholesterol, they might be more susceptable to heart attack. Also, they might have somewhat thickened heart walls, which might make the heart beat less efficiently. And, if they are truly huge, there is probably a great demand on the heart to pump blood through all that muscle. However, the body is adabtable, and probably it would be hard to pinpoint any of this as a direct cause of death. If a guys cholesterol is high, he should treat it, A/S or no A/S. There are medications for that, and diet may help. BB tend to have less bodyfat than average, which means less likelyhood of CAD, especially belly fat. Plus, they are active, and get their heart rate up by lifting, also good for you. If we are talking sudden, unexplained death, I would suspect dehydration as much as anything. Just like the bullshit over Ephedrene causing death. What causes death in every case I've heard of is also dehydration. The coaches have the kids out in 110 degree weather for 4 hours working hard, and then are shocked when one drops dead. And, the average American, God bless them, falls for it every time.
