Eccentric hard to control

I've noticed that when I'm using weights very near my max on the bench, I have a hard time lowering the bar. It takes a lot of time for me to control the weight. I want to keep in the groove.

In a way controlling the negative seems harder than the positive. The positive is just a burst of speed followed by a lockout. This is something new to me, in the past I never had a problem lowering the weight.

Eccentric phase of the bench press...

Key muscles involved - Movements

Brachialis - Hammer Curls, Reverse Barbell Curls

Rear Deltoids - Face-pulls, Reverse Pec-Deck, Bent Laterals, Dumbbell Cleans

Traps, Rhomboids and Lats - Rows, Pull-downs, Chins, Shrugs

Good Luck!

Thanks Screwball! My pushing strength is definitely out of proportion to my pulling strength. I will hit those exercises harder.
