Ears "popping" while working out??

I know, it's a freakin' odd question....but has this happened to anyone else?

Just recently, everytime I either lift weight or go to tae kwon do, both my ears "pop", and stay "open"....I know they aren't the proper medical terms, but that's as close as I can get to a description.

I've been working out a long time, and it has occasionally happened on legs day, but infrequently. I do breathe properly, and do not hold my breath. I haven't had any recent colds or ear infections.

As soon as I'm done working out and I cool down, I'm fine, and I can hear properly again, and it doesn't sound like I'm under water when I'm talking. It's more annoying than anything, and I'm just wondering what the hell is going on.

Could it not be wax buildup?

No, it's not like a blockage, and it only happens when I'm working out.

I do breathe normally, and I don't hold my breath....but I think the problem lies there somewhere. It's like my ears don't equalize. Any divers out there will know what I'm talking about.

Sometimes a low grade cold or other conjestion will block eustation tubes. Then your ears have hard time equalizing. Often this can be caused by dietary factors.

no man.... i would bet it is blood pressure... if i use ephedra .. or clen... it happens to me... ... you might wanna get it checked... or might be something you are taking.... but energy drinks and stuff do it to me..... as soon as i calm down or rest a while... they go back to normal.... also if i am comming back to cardi and been off for a while.... i will start running and get tired as hello feel like shit and the ears go and i feel like shit already ...not like talking... but the wife just keeps jabbing.... i just lay down close my eyes till it stop..

I've had this happen to me too. My hearing was completely ruined. What an odd experience.

I know how to "pop" my ears manually, but that didn't last. This sort of effect only happened recently and hasn't come back, so I'm betting it was my cold.

yea man the same thing happened to me while i was in Miami this past week, i was in a very small room with not much ventilation...make sure you breath alot while your in a lift (breath out when u push , then in as you contract..for bench) and drink lots of water

Update

It must have been a mild URI. No problems working out - cardio, TKD, or lifting.

Did some dive training the other day for work at a local pool, and had no probs equalizing at 15 feet.

Thanks for your replies, guys :supercool

Do you experience dizzyness when this happens?? My dad had this happen to him while he was at work one day and totally lost all sense of balance and his equalibrium was all out of wack.. Well after that 1st incident it happened more and more often and got worse and worse.. He had a disease called *Mineres* (not sure how to spell it) but you should really do some research on that and see if you have any of these symtoms.. See a doctor if ya do.. It's pretty serious.

Jus something I thought of when I read this..

Ryan.

Thanks Ryan, but it was a short term thing, and nothing like Meniere's disease. I see patients all the time with that, and it is quite nasty.

All I had was the constant "open ear" sound. Like I said, it must have been a mild URI affecting my ears.

Just FYI, a whole shwack of info can be found here about Meniere's.
