DVD decoder program?

I am trying to play a dvd on my computer but it tells me I need some program and I can't find any full versions of the program (only 5minute trials ...). Anyone know a place where I can download a free one? I always assumed that my pc came with it installed, guess not?

yes, the API for mediaplayer has a DVD decoding system built in.

assuming you have a dvd drive and the correct drivers for it, then it should be able to do it.

there are other ones out there to - WinDVD is one that comes to mind.

I don't see why it didn't come with your system. My laptop is from HP and came with it, and the DVD drive that I got on my own for a server also came with software for it.
Maybe you have it and just didn't install it?

I probably lost the installations once I installed xp over my old system. All my files are back at home so that sucks.

I downloaded a trial of winDVD but it only plays 5minutes. I just downloaded media player 9 and it has the nessary components to play a dvd ONLY if you have the dvd encrypter installed.

Almost 10years of computer programming and I can't play a dvd lol, I am just gonna try to look for a crack.

Also I remember some kid cracked some encryption regarding dvd's that allowed to copy the dvd? Something named css or csc or something I can't remember. I was thinking maybe if I "ripped" the dvd to my computer and used that code to decrypt it then simply play it, yea that should work.

All I know is that I rented Goldmember from blockbuster and I am gonna watch this shit before I return it. I don't like wasting money.

there is a ton of shit out there to bring the dvd files to your computer and then convert them over to high quality mpegs - was just doing that yesterday at work.

mind you, it is slow as shit and you can't do anything else on that computer while it is doing it.

to rip out to a crappier quality, it will take maybe an hour or two for a 1gig dvd file (full movies from blockbuster are more like 4-7 gigs).
I'm in a P4 2g with a gig of ram.

to rip out to good mpeg quality with good audio, it will take 8 hours or more for that gig...

so while that option is there, I don't know how much it is worth it.

but yeah, if you look around you can find it.
