Dumbells VS. Machines, Which one do you prefer

I use both of them in my workout but free weights use to give me a lot of injuries and aching pains. I started using machine and smith machines and my gains started again and i feel a lot better in the injury dept. too.

Dumbells....

Freeweight is the only way to go if you can handle it....makes every muscle invovled work.

Machines mostly isolate the main mucles and cheat your use of the stabilizing muscles. However, machines are better when you're prone to injury in an area.

A combination of the two is ideal. You aren't going to pack on mass with just machines though, unless you are one of Dorian Yates kids or something.

I like to hit the Free Weights during the beginning of my workout and then I'll hit the machines, because the machines are so much easier. I love Free Weights the most, but after you've exhausted yourself with free weights, it's beneficial to hit some machines to take the workout a little further to completely fatigue the muscles.

It's always worked great for me!

machines are for the old peopple, the weak, and woman.
My tiny 110 lb wife says the same thing about machines.

Does it really matter.

I mean the object is to put stress on the target muscle group. Machines can work just as good as free weights. I use a combo but you can get gains off of machines as well as free weights.
