Dumbells and a Barbell?

Mactep

I am a poor student, and cannot go and buy a bunch of equpiment nor afford such luxaries as a gym membership. I have lifted at a gym before, though only for about 10 months.

I posess aver 500 lbs of weights or more.
I would say perhaps closer to 600 if you count the dumbell weights I have. Here is the deal. I don't have a squat rack that will work where my equipment is in the basement. The ceilings are too low- which certainly omits doing OLY lifts. I have a 35lb barbell and enough weights that I can pile em on and do around 500 lb deadlifts. I tried to zercher deadlift and do some squats that way with em, but it just isn't possible right now.
The adjustable dumbells I have can hold probably 110 to 120lbs of weights, though I only have enough to put about 65-70lbs on each one.

Now my question is that can I get big without having massive squats and doing them with dumbells? (Once I get into university I can probably get a cheap membership there, but that is another year away) I can probably afford to buy more dumbell weights (they cost like 3 dollars for 10lb plates) and get a decent bench, but right now I am only at 55lb DB presses so that is a ways away. Is having a relatively weak squat going to hurt my gains for the next year?

Any suggestions?

BTW, my adjustable bench has a leg lift thing that looks like I can add up to maybe 180+ lbs on it. (Perhaps 4-5 45 lb plates)

just make due the best you can. b fold used to squat off a pair of 55 gallon drums. thats what he used for his squat rack. maybe you can locate some of those for cheap. you can use a milk crate for a box. and get a bench. or in the mean time you can do floor presses.

goodl luck

you can take the weights outside and do:

farmers walk
goener walks
overhead walking lunges
snatch
one handed snatch
bent press

inside:
underhand bb rows
curls
high pulls
stiff arm pulls
power shrugs

go to the harware store and make a couple of stands and do squats, I am sure you can do that for less than 50 bucks.....in the long run you'll be glad you did

I would have to level out my floor. it is pretty unlevel, I have to keep some plates in front of the plates on my deadlift otherwise it would bowl me over. LOL. Not sure how I would feel with 200 or more lbs sitting on unlevel and empty 55 gallon drums. Awesome idea though.

I do have a bench though, a pretty nice adjustable one, I got a discount on it becaue it was the floor model. Hehe. I like it because it has leg lift/hammy lift and that part of it comes out and can be replaced with a preacher curl platform. Not to mention my bench adjusts to a good decline and has like 12 settings from there all the way up to 90 degrees for some good shoulder presses.

I like some of the Ideas, though I have no idea what a goeners walk and some of the others are.
