Dumbell Row PR

Hey everyone!! I dont post up all my small PR's on here, but figured Id post this one from a few days ago, along with a question. I hit the 150 dumbell for 30 reps on dumbell rows, with each arm. The 150's are way too light at this point, but they are the max at all 3 gyms Ive been training at. Any suggestions on how I could add weight to them? I was going to buy custom dumbells, but thats money I dont have right now! haha ThanX for all the encouragement and suggestions!!

Wow great job man!! You need to get some vids up that is simply awesome never seen anyone go over 120 at my gym and that was only for like 10......

I think you could add magnetic attachments to the DBs but I don't know how many #s that will actually be...

just push people (the fat ones ideally) on the ground, grab them and start rowing.

ThanX brother!! Ive thought of the magnetic weights, but heard they only add a few pounds. Id really like to try a pair of 200+ dumbells. Probabally wont find them anywhere. Maybe Ill but a custom handle one day! haha I definately plan to get some of my lifts on video. Was going to wait until I hit some milestone lifts, like a 405 bench and 600 deadlift. But maybe Ill do it before then, and include various lifts. I definately have plans to record some lifts in the near future. Ill be sure to post them when I do. ThanX again brother!!

Sounds good broly! Just out of curiousity are you not a fan of BB rows or T bar rows(I have to do these with the bar in the corner) Since your weight is limited on DB's these might be something you could add in...

ThanX brother!! I like those movements alot. Was just switching it up a little. I like dumbell rows better then with the barbell, T-bar rows in the corner are great too, but they often interfere with my deadlift routine since Ill go up to 6 plates. I could do them afterwards, but I like the chest supported version the best, and thats not available to me most of the time. Definately great exercises. I often go so heavy on the BB rows (315-365) that they stress my lower back a good deal too, and Im trying not to rip that apart just yet, coming back from the injury in december. My barbell rows can be pretty ballistic with the heavier weight. ThanX again brother!!

Awesome work man...just be thankful you do not train at the shittiest Bally's in the world. If they knew what a dump this place was they would take their name of the door. Our db's stop at 105...makes long lines for the straight bar benches and inclines because you don't have to be huge to do more then that for chest.

Nice work walking!!! I know your a fan of of dbell rows as i am..but do you have access to a hammer strength high row? you might be able to get more weight on it and its a very similar motion..i will say that ive tried it twice and personally i did not like it..

Nice work! You could maybe try using farmer's walk implements, since those allow you to load a bunch of weight. They might be too long, though, depending on how you set up for your db rows. There were a bunch of threads on how to make them for pretty cheap if you search around a little.

Oh, duh. Using an EZ Curl bar makes much more sense than the farmer's walk thing. Disregard my post in favor of cmdubs.

Looks like you killing that shit WalkingBeast.

i am assuming 3 sets of 10, otherwise you are a fucking animal, come to think of it you alreay are, :).

ThanX for the encouragement brother!! I trained at bally's for a week once, due to traveling, and it was a shithole. The dumbells were very limited and it was really crowded. ThanX again brother!!

ThanX brother!! Yes, Im not sure exactly which the high row is, but I have alot of hammer strength and cybex (plate loaded and pin loaded) back machines at the gym Ive been training at the most. I use a variety of plate loaded machines, when Im not using freeweight. ThanX again brother!!

thats some serious poundage to be rowing

looks like you'll have to switch to the bar eventually bro

Means alot coming from you!! ThanX brother!! I was using the bar alot, but after hurting my back Ive wanted to take a break from throwing around 315-365 since with the heavier weights, the movement gets pretty ballistic. I feel the dumbells more too, it seems. Im hoping they have a chest supported T-bar row when my gym reopens. Thats a great machine. ThanX again brother!! Keep KILLING that shit!!

ThanX brother!! Much Appreciated!! Scotsman showed me a site for plate loaded dumbells. If I had the money Id pick up one and bring it to the gym with me on back day. As far as making things, Im real bad at that. ThanX again brother!!

I heard of people piling weight on an e-z bar and rowing with that...never tried it myself though..db's are heavy enough for now.

ThanX brother!! Ive thought of that. The length would be awkward, but it might not be that bad. ThanX again brother!!

ThanX for the encouragement brother!! I had to KILL something that day. My deadlifts were weak. If you count all the sets I did with the 150 dumbell rows its over a 100 reps. I did, what I consider 3 sets . A set of dumbell rows for me, is when each arm has done the movement. Got to do both sides. haha So basically I did 150x30 reps on my right arm, then switched to my left and matched the other arm with another 30 reps. These 60 reps count as my 30 rep set. 30 on each arm. I then did two more sets of this exercise. I did 23 reps on each arm the following set, then followed it up with only 17 on each arm. If you count all the reps done on both arms, thats 137 reps done in 6 sets. I only count it as 3 though. If I fail at 23 on my left, Ill usually mimic 23 on my right and not take it further. Usually Im pretty close to failure anyway with both arms. Definately the highlight of my back routine, the deadlifts sucked. ThanX again brother!!
