I am BATMAN!

so...I have effed up discs in my neck
and now all of a sudden (gradually building but excruciating now)

I have unrelenting pain in the upper and lower jaw on the left side..like every tooth feels like it has a cavity...
I was at the dentist last week and the week before

some small fillings in teeth in this area but nothing bad...and everything looked good on xray..no obvious abcesses or cavities that were so deep they'd need root canals
no loose fillings..nothing else that needed to be filled..

SO! my question is this...is this related to my neck? and how the FUCK do I make it stop
the dentist just prescribed 7.5/750 watsons and I have ANOTHER appointment in the morning but the dentist is going to be looking at the joint in the jaw rather than my teeth because she doesn't think its really the teeth

I have soma and neurotin (take them on an alternating schedule if I need to)

the soma seems to take the edge off which makes me think its muscle spasms...the neurotin barely dulls it....Im waiting to take the watsons till tonight

FML..and HELP

lol...troo..no sinus issues tho..I don't think
no other symptoms and its upper and lower jaw

whatever u do DO NOT let them convince to get ur discs fused, you'll be on pain meds the rest of ur life..already had 5+ friends/relatives that got that done and were no better and are completely useless on meds everyday.. most fukn waste of skin surgery evar

yeah...I already refused to even meet with the surgeon...why waste his time and mine

no...and Im really wondering if thats what it is and doesnt originate from the neck spasms OR a new filling changed my bite and it set it off

I do clench my teeth in my sleep but don't grind

this is exactly what i do. I have had TMJ in the past and it hurts like a motherfucker. i thought i had an ear infection or rotten teeth the pain was so bad. but, it was my jaw.
have it examined.

I am knot a doctor, but I've punched a lot of people in the jaw over the years, so I do know that the nerves that touch the back of your jaw could be causing this pain. Especially a possibility since you already have nerve issues in the area.

I have pt in a couple of hours and will be bringing it up there with my pt...and the dentist tomorrow...AND the fuckin ortho on thursday

fml

very funny pick

so...I'll be verifying it at the dentist tomorrow but the pt concurred with tmj ..and found a trigger point in my neck that set the pain off
the dentist called me back this afternoon and said it sounded like I needed a root canal..but she called me from home (her day off) and I guess doesn't remember she did xrays last week that didn't show anything

I'd almost prefer a bad tooth...at least that could be resolved fairly easily :(

Don't ferget the ear as a potential etiology. Ear and jaw share pain fibers on the hypoglossal nerve.

Here's my quick and dirty "it's 3 am and I have to call my attending jaw pain cheat sheet:

• Dental caries or abscess
• Sinusitis
• Temporal arteritis
• Trigeminal neuralgia
• Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome
• Migraine
• Sialadenitis (eg, parotitis)
• Sialolithiasis (salivary gland calculi)
• Otitis media
• Orbital or periorbital cellulitis
• Peritonsillar abscess
• Ludwig’s angina (retropharyngeal infection)
• Carotid artery dissection
• Glossopharyngeal neuralgia
• Atypical facial pain
• Postherpetic neuralgia
• Bruxism (teeth grinding)
• Dental misalignment
• Acoustic neuroma
• Trauma
• Glaucoma
• Dacryocystitis (lacrimal sac infection)
• Angina pectoris
• Numb chin syndrome (mental neuropathy) due to malignancy in mandible

Given her history of cervical disc problems, is there any chance she has herniation or rupture putting pressure on a nerve? Do any of the nerves she's describing even involve cervical vertebrae?

trigeminal nerve was brought up at pt....but I think I'm confused as to how it differs from tmj

and what plunkey said....

the idea I got from the pt was the muscles in the neck around c2 were knotted up on the left side and causing me to clench my jaw unconsciously...
I know tapping each of the teeth doesn't hurt..IDK

I know the watsons nixed 95% of the pain and I actually got to sleep..
weirdly they long wore off and its only a minor ache this morning

and the diagnosis is according to the dentist and the unbelievable pain from the muscles...tmj

Ouch. Mine would come And go, so at least there's that. Are you going to get a mouth piece fitted to wear at night?

yes, and was shown how to pinch the muscles to get them to relax, and told moist hot compresses on both sides as often as I could stand it. The moist hot compress should be interesting with how dry my skin is from retin A...and a new script was added...*sigh*

she also suggested I get an implant to replace a missing molar to try and even out the bite but did say no guarantee it would help

A diagnoses is cool...that seemed pretty definitive but I think I would have preferred needing a root canal

yeah my jaw muscles get very tense. are you taking stims or under a lot of stress? these things make it worse for me.

under a shit ton of stress and haven't been to yoga in two weeks

I noticed coffee made it worse yesterday (temp didn't matter) but I'm not on any other stims
I'm guessing I shouldn't take any until it calms down

and no woody
