Drop sets

Come on now - who's lovin these?

:chomp:

It's a pain pleasure thing no?

I had the BEST chest/back w/o the other day (until it got interupted  ) in I can't remember how long.

Drop sets is my answer to "no spotter" when I can't complete a set at higher weight. To do full-on mult-drop sets to failure, however, I think these need to be done with some recovery time. I've got the tendonitis to prove that.

Otherwise, esp on the big lifts, eg. leg press, if someone can strip your weights for you, damn. I haven't had a killer glute burn like that in looong time!

Do you think going to failure on drops is any different than going to failure on straight sets??

If so - how?

Are you saying that drop sets are worse for tendonitis than straight sets?

I think she is saying that she OVERDID the drop sets.....just like you can overdo going to failure with a spotters.

I LOVE drop sets. I HATE HATE HATE training with other people - the idea of a "training partner" gives me the heebie jeebies.... for me, training is a solitary activity. So drop sets have ALWAYS been my answer to training to failure w/ a spotter.

overdoing a drop set shouldnt cause tendonitits though...unless it was lack of rest time between subsequent workouts....

Definitely involves other things -- but don't you want some recovery time, i.e. do you make serious dropsets your routine every week?

I have for 3-4 weeks at a time....

but I dont see how a triple drop to failure is different than 4 straight sets to failure from a joint stress standpoint

At the risk of sounding totally ignorant can someone please explain the concept of drop sets to me?

Thanks
Necia

***on The Triple Drops...each Drop Should Be Done For Max Reps...look To Drop 20-30% Each Drop From Previous Weight....so You Drop The Weight 3 Times

My hubby calls them "Buster Sets." As in, you're busted when you're done.....LOL

Ive also done 20 rep squats and deads to failure...

those are 911 Squats

So basically you start your set off real heavy or as heavy as you can handle alone, and with each set, you decrease the weight? If so, this is how my co-worker works out.

Necia

yeah...but the drops are immediate...no resting in between the drop...so its NOT descending sets

These are easiest to do on machine lifts where you can drop the weight yourself, or when you can grab the next set of dumbbells. Bar lifts or plate loaded machines require another person to strip the weights for you. That's when a training partner or a gear boy is a great thing to have.

"gear boy"

LOL

hey - thats what the short guys are for, right?

LOL -- my hubby went to the gym with me today & was my gear boy -- he didn't feel like lifting, so I did it alone & he changed plates, etc.........

He's shorter than me too -- 5'2" to my 5'4" but we won't talk about that.....

Clearly looking for a pool boy instead of a gear boy has been my greatest mistake all along.

damn......

HATE those......you get about 12...then you feel really weak...you fight for deep breaths after each rep....the pause between them grow long and longer and longer....you legs ache..your lumbars ache..your arms fall asleep from being locked into place for so long....but then...you just go numb....the only thing you notice is the bar digging into the top of your traps...you dig deep...finally you get the 20th rep....3 minutes after the set started...you collapse and then see THe White Buffalo.
