Drinking beer???? good or bad???

I like to kick back and drink a few beers with my friends on saturday nights but I stick to a strict diet of lots of protein and and wholesome food during the week, my question is could the drinking slow my growth dramatically? it is sorta a stress relief time to kick back and chill with all my friends I use it as one of my cheats during the week how do the rest of you guys feel about this?
 
Alcohol is never good for you nor is it conducive to building a great physique in any way. The extreme dehydration of hard-core partying is the most catabolic of its influences. That being said...a few times amonth won't kill you. Don't get totally shitty and stay hydrated and take your vitamins the day after. Unless your pre-contest, a little partying is okay.
 
You're what, 23/24? Dude, don't sweat it. You've hit the gym and dieted hard through the week, have a few beers on the weekend. Enjoy yourself. The gym will be there come Sunday.
 
I too enjoy a Beer or 2 a week but that's what I limit it to.
Empty Carbo's is all it is.. Neither good, nor really bad as long as it's within the limits of your caloric output and metabolism.

Everything in moderation is my mantra....
 
A friend of mine is a bodybuilder and he use to drink a lot and started getting a gut because all it is empty calories and serves no value to your body. So he stopped drinking and it has helped him a lot. He says he feels better when he trains and lost that weight the beer put on. I think it isnt a good idea to drink but i think once a month or so is perfectly fine.
 
I diet and train very hard during the week, but the weekend is a time to relax, get shit faced, and wake up beside some chick I don't know. Let's face it, If you were strictly on your training diet 24-7, then you would get bored as shit. I don't know about you guys, but the only reason I even train is to look good for the chicks. So why not go out and show these bitches just how much work you've done for them. Plus it boosts my confidence when girls are constantly hanging on me and commenting on how big my arms are, etc. So I say to you, yes its O.K. to drink on the weekends.

I drink about 4 times a week. I get shitfaced. It is pretty normal for people around 21-26...i wouldn't sweat it. Yeah, it can't be good for the bod...but then again, would you rather sit home? I dont know about you guys, but I cannot go out sober....i want to kill everyone (especially skinny tools at the bar with wifebeaters on).

Just work hard, diet good, and you should be ok...not your best, but ok

Exactly. 300-400 empty calories won't kill you, neither will that little alcohol. Enjoy yourself.
 
I have built a marvelous physique thanks to my beer.

I try to drink about 2 cans right before a workout, helps get my energy going! Also, 1 case in the morning really sets me straight. I tell ya I am sooo CHISELED becuse of beer.

It has also changed my love life. My wife was having one night stands with the UPS man but now she's all over me every night. Thanks BEER!!

funny that I see this post because I'm up right now at 6:30 in the morning drinking V8 and tons of water to get hydrated after a night of drinking.

as long as you don't drink self-destructively (as I used too in the past :() drinking won't kill your efforts in the gym. as stated though it is in NO WAY beneficial.
 
yeah dude, no benefits or no major fuck up for you if you dont go over the top.
If you are bulking, dont think about it, there are around 180 cals in a pint, as long as you dont go and drink 10(1800cals) then go to bed(would you normally eat that amount of cals before bed??, i think not)
If you do drink, try to drink water after you are done drinking, it will get the shit out of you quicker, because you will be pissing all the time!!!
Also alcohol dehydrates you, so drink that mofo'n H2O!!!

If i am out on a large one(mates b'day or some shit) i keep a 2 letre bottle of water by my bed, when i come home, i try to drink most of it before bed.....i am up in the night then pissing like a cunt!!!! it helps you alot, no hangover, gets you hydrated(depending on how much you have drunk!)

Just drink dude, enjoy your life, u only have one(as a human, u could come back as an ant or some shit!!)

having a drink or two occasionally does not hurt you, you think all the pros never have a drink or anything. the thing to make sure you dont do is binge drink thats when your body gets into trouble, with all the dehdryation it brings you and its other problems.
 
Unless you're a pro prepping for a contest- a couple a beers now and then won't kill you. In fact, alcohol in moderation, has some positive affects on the body in terms of heart function. The key here is not to go overboard. Because I've scaled back on my drinking, I feel relaxed at about three beers, much less than it used to take (more like at least eight). Everything in moderation!

I used to go out all the time and hit the beers, it was great but then I started to tire of the hangovers, even drinking lots of water afterwards still did not help how I felt the next day, tired, and generally shitty right into the following week and into my workouts

If you are serious about fitness I would just kick the habit like I did

I go out clubbing with my mates and just drink water, seriously, I have a better time than them because I dont feel shit, I know what I am doing and all the carbs Ive eaten mean I have loads of energy

I feel better without alcohol now when I go out, I like the feeling of being in control and more alive (water and lots of carbs = big energy)

Alcohol just runs you down

Nobody needs that shit

According to that BS I have a HIGH RISK OF ADDICTION. Come on now, I am 25 years old, a Law Student, and Single. Its not like I have anything better to do.....my entire law school drinks 4 nights a week. It is rather like the norm to go out and party. TRUST me, I would rather stay home on friday and get laid than go out...but I am not getting laid (not by anyone I want to at least, haha) so I am goig to go out when EVERYONE I know does. Peer Pressure is a bitch. But at least I have the best body out of everyone.

and I only drink, I dont smoke, I dont pop pills, I dont do anything else. And its pretty much beer, no liquor...lite beer

Everyone I know drinks too, but I just cant be bothered with the shit anymore, so I let them get on with it, I still chat up the chicks. Peer pressure, who cares about that, its my life, if they dont like it then tough shit.

Thats just me, if you enjoy getting fucked out of your head (like I did in the past), then great

Personally I have cut beer out completely, and only
have an occasional glass of wine.
