Drag curls: how much less?

Ladies, gents,

I'm getting tired of regular old barbell curls. I'm thinking of doing them "drag curl" style instead.

Anyway, assuming I can curl 145 for 8 with pretty strict form, whereabouts should I start for drags?

And yeah, I know "drag curl" is a fruity name for an exercise :) But anyone who says I should put on high heels and makeup to train biceps will be removed from my Christmas card list! ;) LOL.

im not too sure it will be all that much less once you get used to the technique..drag curls are great..im sure people are gonna look at you weird lol

No kidding? Wow. That'll be kinda nice.

Hehe! :) They already do that; I've kinda gotten used to it ;)

I'd start with like 95 or 115 and move up from there just to get the technique down etc.

Starting at way less weight will also help to avoid plateaus IMO

I agree with intraining, I barbell curl 135-140 and when I do drag curls, I do about 80-90. Definitely start at a lower weight and get a good squeeze at the top! Have fun :)

Thanks gents! :)

I'll definitely start out lighter--probably no more than 95. I have a bit of a cold and don't feel very strong anyway ;)

An old Vince Gironda favorite. Drag curls can be a great exercise. Start out light to get the 'feel' of it. Once you get the hang of it, the weights pile on quick.

Guld, I can't wait to hear about the new growth in your arms after a few weeks using this movement :)

what exactly are they

On drag curls you start off like you're doing regular bb curls but instead of keeping your elbows at your side as you curl the weight, you drag the bar up your body pushing your elbows behind you as you lift.
