Extraterrestrial life exists, sure. It's a rather large universe and stuff, and they can use some pretty basic math and stats to show that the probability is beyond a resonable doubt.

As to whether they're visiting us... well, there's plenty of arguments why that's just science fiction.

according to dawkins, life is so rare and the correct combos so slim that a figure would be 1 in a billion planets could contain the right combo for life to exist

Thanks for posting the links...fairly interesting stuff. I agree with what Samoth posted about the probability of extra-terrestrial life yet I am somewhat skeptical as far as contact with us is concerned.

I agree some Christians believe in aliens. Official church doctrine and the bible holds only humans are created in gods image and it does not support the belief that aliens exist. Fundamentalists do not even believe dinosaurs existed.

And it's funny how so many suggest that they would be much like ourselves. Whenever people talk about aliens, they must be from a planet like our own. How arrogant and ignorant. I highly doubt that "we" (as in earth based life forms) are the only way for life to exist. Who is to say that alien "life" needs water? I mean, hell, there are organisms here on earth that consume sulfur...... If you or I consumed primarily sulfur, it would kill us deader than shit. What's to say that some form of alien life form wouldnt consume hydrogen or helium???? Considering that most of the universe consists of these two elements, that's where I'd put my money if I was a betting man.

Again, that's not to say that there cant be alien life that is similar to ours.

I'd agree with Samoth's observations, but then extraterrestrial life doesn't have to be super intelligent or composed of billions of cells like the entities on Earth.

Dude, the entire lunar surface has been extensively mapped and photographed. It's not hard to find. People in general just don't care about astro stuff, so NASA and observatories only have a demand to release "pretty", picturesque stuff to magazines and what have you... or they're weird conspiracy theorists that think the government's hiding alien infiltration or some crap, lol, in which case it doesn't matter what's realeased, it's always getting GOVERNMENTCONSPIRACYPWN3D.

The internets aren't always the best source of reliable information, especially given the ease with which half (or less) truthes can be propagated in single images, articles, or what have you that can be easily altered by the layperson.

Think about it, if Aliens were to make it here, their technology would be thousands of years ahead of ours. Moon bases are not far fetched.

The big issue is has this astronaut, and other official NASA employees, come out and stated that aliens exist. They risk a lot by admitting this.
