Doing same exercise over and over again.....No GOOD??

Hi,

I was wondering, what do you guys think about doing the same exercise over and over, day after day? I hear mix reviews on those. Some said that if you do the same exercise day after day, your body will get use to it and you won't get any result. However; some people said that as long as it works, it doesn't matter if you do the same exercises day after day after day.

what do you guys think?

do it until you plateau, then switch to something else that hits the same muscles

im almost always switching, but the exercises are hitting the same muscles, and are usually closely related, ie
3 board press, floor press

bb row- chins
etc

well...doing that means that your body will get used to the movements and instead of it being "training"..it will be "routine" and your muscles will adapt. you have to keep them guessing!! change it up week to week..by keepin them confused you make your muscles adapt and grow. you can gain a shitload of muscle and strength this way. tb

the westside routine changes exercises every two weeks.....

on my wsb routine i change me moves every week, and keep accessory moves the same until gains stall, then i switch

i used to follow the two week rotation louis recommended on his tapes. i liked it a lot, but we've switched our bench program to MM style. i'm excited to see how that works out.

as long as you can keep adding resistance to the exercise, there is no reason to stop it

Of course you can do the same exercises. The idea that muscles need to be "confused" or left "guessing" is... well... a myth. Muscles aren't little thinking creatures that say "oh look, new exercise! I guess we'd better grow now." They only know tension. If something is heavier than they're used to they'll grow. The reason switching exercises sometimes works is that some muscles will experience tension in new ways.

Of course, this is all assuming you want to grow and nothing else. For strength training purposes, switching exercises can be useful as it causes movement-specific neural strength gains that can carry over to other movements.
