Doing More Deadlifts in a 5x5?

I was wondering whether it'd be ok to (at least occassionally) replace squats with deadlifts in a 5x5.

I was thinking of a split like

Mon: deadlift
Wed: squat/ light deadlift
Fri: deadlift

instead of the usual

Mon: squat
Wed: deadlift/ light squat
Fri: squat.

At my gym, it can be a pain to get a squat rack because of the freaking curlers. Also, I like deadlifts more than squats, so I wouldn't mind doing deadlifts more often.

Sounds like a great way to overtrain VERY quickly, so I'm with these guys....don't do it.

If you can deadlift 3 times a week, you are using pussy weight. no offense. a true deadlift workout should have you TOTALLY exhausted and sick.

What good is having chicken legs with a strong lower back? Squat is the best weightlifting exercise PERIOD. deadlift is a distant second.

Until you have a TRUE deadlift workout. You won't even think of doing it twice a week, let alone 3 times.

Thx for the advice, all; I'll stick to the squats. I didn't know whether deadlifting that often would lead to overtraining.

Good God man. If you are able to deadlift that much a week then you aren't lifting heavy enough wieght. Once a week wears me out good. Besides squats are too important to drop. So no. Not a good idea.

A lot of people are saying this, so I wonder if I'm doing something wrong.

I do the Starr 5x5, so I only do four sets of deadlifts per week. The first three sets are pretty easy. The fourth set is the only hard one. This week for example, I did

225x5<--easy
265x5<--easy
305x5<--pretty easy
350x5<--hard (almost missed it)

I'd like to do more sets, because I think I could be making better gains in the deadlift, but I've been sticking to the program.

Workload will eventually RAPE you big time. Happened to me on a Cycle. i actually crashed twice on a 5x5 on a 10 week cycle.

Its all about your CNS. It doesn't matter how big and strong you are. When Workload gets insanly high your CNS will crash.
