A virus is usually characterized by the following general symptoms, fever, chills, diarhea, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, general malaise, decreased energy, rash (may come and go), you may experince all or just one of the symptoms.

In general do viruses need medication? Or do they go away on their own?

Depending on the virus... HIV is a virus and so is the common cold. So, yes some viruses go away on their own and some never do. Most drugs prescribed for viruses only control the symptoms and not the virus itself. Forget anti-biotics they only work for bacteria and VIRUSES ARE NOT BACTERIA. What symptoms are you having, be more precise. I don't know the side effects of most steroids, so, maybe others can help you out with that. Why don't you see you're doc?

As soon as my insurance kicks in I plan on seeing a doc. These symptoms have been going on for a while now, that why I'm beginning to worry.

Sorry, I guess I didn't read your post correctly. I'm from Canada, (free medicare)and sometimes forget about the American system. The best advice I can give is look for when the symptoms started, what were you doing around that time? Any changes in your lifestyle, started a cycle? Sexual/intimate contact with stranger, visited foreign country? Remember virus symptoms are also consistent with anxiety symptoms so you could be really anxious and not be aware. Good luck. Be sure to see you're doc when you can.
