Does fina go bad?

IronFist

I have a bottle of finaplix gold that has probably 10cc left in it. I am kind of leery of using it becasue it it is almost a brownish color. There is some residue left in the bottom of the bottle that won't mix also. I just threw it in the oven to make sure that it is sterile. the color kind of bothers me becasue my homemade fina is a golden color and this is a bit darker. Any ideas or suggestions?

maybe someone who has used the vaopharm before can help me out. It seems to be darker now that I've sterilized it than it was before. I guess the best way to describe it is a dark yellow with a brownish/red tint to it.

:)

Well, I suppose the oil could get rancid but would have to be pretty old and/or subject to pretty high heat. If it was made with BA, which it likely was, BA is not only a solvent, but apreservative as well so I doubt your stuff has gone bad. Slight changes in the mixture used to dissolve fina can cause variances in color. For example for a while recently A kist produced some darker colored final product but it was ll good. If your worried about the gunk it it, which I would be, I would get a new sterile vial and sterile filter and simply refilter it into new vial.

I did bake it at 250 degrees for 25min just in case there was an bacteria in it. That shouldn't be anywhere near high enough heat to make the oil rancid, is it? What temp do they cook it at when making it? Thanks zyg

250 is fine and whats used when making it. Different oils go rancid at different temps, some pretty low, but 250 should be fine.

I'm going to shoot 2cc's of it tomorrow, so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the help Zyglamail

Ironfist everything is still good...i had the same problem with mine and it is still good...same effect
