Does anyone use Google+?

I have no doubt that FB will eventually go the way of Yahoo and Myspace. However, I was interested in your comment about it dying after a year. The others took almost a decade to become like that.

myspace didnt' take a decade to become obsolete. I mean some people do still use myspace but I remember it was raging back in 05 when i was in CA. Bout 2 to 3 years later it was a ghost town. If that lawsuit has merit though it will take FB less than a year for people to clear out.

I typically don't like nor listen to anything Cramer has to say but if even he's yelling to sell sell sell FB stock and that people should demand a refund or some other compensation for what he calls the worst IPO ever...something's up. All of the kids at school are off FB because it became a place now where old people hang out. So while it may "eek" out a few more years it will essentially be myspace within 2 years tops...I think it will be more like a year. Apparently the timeline thing they're pushing so hard to get everyone on is for some sort of market crawling software that they need everyone to be on so the marketers can coordinate their efforts. You guys honestly think that as soon as you have to sit through a 30 second commercial before you can post anything on FB, that people are gonna stick around for that? It's an instant deal breaker, especially since there's going to be a plethora of competitors just waiting. Pinterest is where all the kids are now I guess...never been there myself so not sure what's different there, but that's the place everyone at school is talking about.

Plus there's a 15B class action lawsuit looming for FB that contends they track you even after you've logged out of the site. "IF" that suit holds any water FB will be over in way less than a year...fairly or unfairly if that perception gets out there it's over. I already know a handful of people that either completely got out or simply don't post anymore at FB because they think shit like that is going on. One of my good buddies in WA is a software designer for Microsoft and he said to get out if you care about being tracked because the new timeline, according to him, infects IE with what he called market crawl software.

As I think the youngest girl on this board, I can tell you I don't know of anybody who's no longer on FB bc older people now are as well.

That's not to say I don't think Facebook will eventually become obsolete. Of course it will. They all do.

As for Pinterest, I'm on it and I'm totally addicted. I love that place. Buts it not FB and it won't be it's replacement. It's a sharing utility, but not in the personal way of Facebook. In its current form at least, there's no sharing of personal lives and information. It's shakring clothes and books and DIY ideas yadda yadda. No "I'm dating Joe Blow, went to college here and now live in a 2 bedroom trailer" life type stuff.

Different beast.

Facebook will be over as soon as there's a directly comparable website. Google + would be perfect for that if they rebranded and didn't feel the need to tout it as a google product.

My bad. I should have been more clear. I was thinking more of Yahoo.

You're the youngest female on her? Younger then 25?

I understand what you mean about the "Google" product. There are times when I want to say "I get it. I get it.".

1) Facebook will be around and doing just fine in a year.

2) It has long-term threats just like any other short life cycle IT product.

3) People love to bemoan the downside of facebook. Guess what? Other products have downsides too. Cars kill tens of thousands of people per year. Credit card fraud costs consumers billions per year. Email makes scamming the vulnerable an spamming the annoyed easier than ever.

All this facebook paranoia is downright funny.

I also think that people "generally" have decided to give up some of their privacy with the social media. They might not have known it, but I can't imagine that people would believe that their tweets or other posts are truly private.

Well we'll see if it's paranoia plunks....if they are infact tracking you after you've logged then there's gonna be a shitstorm about that. And didn't GM and some other major advertiser jsut say they were gonna start pulling ads from FB because their own research is showing that the younger market they were trying to target is starting to leave FB?

GM Advertising Budget: $1,800M
GM Total Expenditures on FaceBook: $40M
GM Amount Cut Via Paid FaceBook Ads: $10M
