Does anyone take asthma medication?

My daughter has mild asthma and has to use an inhaler. The dr. gave her some sample pills that reduced her need for the inhaler. The inhaler is only 17$ per month. The pills are 109$ per month. Her mom's insurance policy doesn't cover medication so I'm wondering if the pills are worth it?

I take albuterol and advair.

Just go with the inhalor, unless she's very young or has a history of severe asthma attacks uncontrolled by an emergency inhalor.

When I was young, my parents always kept some prednisone in case the inhalor wouldn't work (this was before all the steroidal inhalors hit the market), as a last-step-before-taking-him-to-the-hospital kind of thing.

Thanks. But, I thought Bush signed a bill that made it illegal for Americans to buy pres. drugs from Canada?

Thank you all. So she can just go with the inhaler then. I'll have to show this thread to her.

Nope, my mom still get's one prescription filled from there.

My father takes steroids so he can breathe because his asthma is so bad. Hasn't been the same person since.

it's either 15 or 17$ for the albuterol inhaler. Can you get it much cheaper than that?

I hope she grows out of it. It is only mild right now. I think asthma can be emotionally related?

Hey bro ... go to www.freebooks4doctors.com

There you can download and print the asthma handbook as well as several others .

Tons of info on prevention and treatment options .... best to do your research first before deciding which drug best fits the situation , when dealing with a loved one you want to be sure your makeing an informed decision not based on someone elses opinion .

Emotionally, environmentally, hormonally, everything. My dad is a pharmacologist and toxicologist and has spent millions of dollars from grants on trying to find some cure for asthma. Found out aspirin thins blood which eventually saved his father's life but he can't cure himself. Very sad.

No. It's caused either by a virus that has attacked the air sacs within the lungs or by allergies that cause lung tissue to constrict. Dry heat can bring on asthma like symptoms.

I used inhailers alot when I played sports in college. I switched to Advair and I barely have any problems anymore. I almost dread having to ever suck in all those carbons from the inhailer.

If you have it bad enough a raise in blood pressure from emotions can cause an attack too.

Is advair another type of inhaler?

Her blood pressure has been high in the past. Dr said it was fairly common.

In a way. It's a powdered formula that you suck in...like sucking sugar thru a straw.

It comes in a little disk. You click back the trigger, hold to your mouth, and suck in.

It works great. No fluorocarbons or hydrochloric acid to suck down like inhailers have.

I only suffer from it during the spring.
