manufacturing

a lot of process/quality/industrial control, cad, automation, thermo, scale up/down

I put a lot of emphasis on Labview in my previous position setting up test beds, automating burn-in processes and life testing on magnetrons.

we deal with chemical batches for body washes using mainly surfactants

so i have to focus on heat loss, viscosity, ph levels

i was at a disadvantage because i wasn't a chem eng

but the hiring crew really liked the fact i had other processing classes that chem engineers don't, especially cad which can play a nice role in package development for our products

LOL, I was out of my element when it came to the chem portions of my job, I believe EE's should be required to take at least two 200 level Chem courses. I am glad I took a couple metallurgy courses as electives.

I guess my point is the Engineering disciplines are becoming too specialized and we should cross-train more in college to prepare for real-world situations.

agreed, manufacturing really gave me an edge for this job because i was exposed to more than just 1 aspect of engineering
