Does anyone have experience w/ umbilical hernias?

Basically i have a small bulge on the upper bart of my bellybutton. It doesn't hurt at all, but just looks weird. I know the operation is pretty simple, but i am more curious about recovery time. i assume i will be forced out of the gym for a while. If anyone has any knowledge of this at all, please post away.

I had surgery on one about 2 1/2 years ago. Little cut above the belly button, but it's pretty painful. I layed around for a week. It hurts sitting up, and I couldn't stand up straight either (had to piss bent over). 6 - 8 weeks off for sure I took more I didn't wanna blow it out again. Hope this helps.

the risk is that you get a piece of intestine trapped in the hernia and then it has its blood supply strangled. The risk is smaller over a longer period of time. But if it happens, the procedure wont be of your choice, it will be an emergency surgery. Listen to the doc and whatever he recommends.

Hey DocTodd, my doc told me that if I can keep pushing it in, then I'm probably ok given the length of time that I've had it (years), but if I can't push it in, then seek treatment immediately. Does that jive?

yea it does...kinda. Im not a surgeon and havent done surgery since i was an intern about 3 years ago. I dont remember shit. But when it strangles, you will know it cuz it hurts like hell and doesnt go away. It starts as a small pain and gradually gets worse and worse and worse with no relief.

hey lifter

do you have the surgery using the mesh? i saw one on tv and the dude was pain free in a couple days. the doctor on tv said that the mesh is so strong that he theoretically do heavy lifting asap, the only thing holding him back would be the pain which is supposed to be minimal.

I had the mesh & it still kept me on my back. The incision is what is painful. My stomach muscles were really sore.

tell me you are fuckin kidding, 6-8 weeks! was there anything unusual about yours? i have had with no pain for 2 years but really want to get rid of it, no i am having second thoughts. can you tell me if yours was similar? mine is comes down in the top of my bb and i can push it up easily. is there a noticable scar? i am really only concerned about how it looks. basically looks like an outy when i am really sporting an inny.

thanks:mad:

My doc told me the same thing. But I noticed my hernia the day it happened. I stayed in the gym for a few weeks right up till the surgery. Just hit higher reps and lower weight. I would workout and lie on a bench and push it back in after each set. I bet I looked stupid but oh well.
The surgery was ok but the recovery was a painfull two weeks of lying in the bed. Was back in the gym in 30 days and hit a prop/fina cycle.

I had a very small scar. But get it fixed.
