does anybody like goa trance?

goa is alright. i don't see it every making it big but there will always be an underground following.

progressive house is where it's at.

Big fan of Hard House (if that's the correct term). I like a lot of forms of techno though. Could you name some artists that are considered goa trance? I have a group named Lunatic Calm. They are kinda dark and wicked. Just curious.

I like trance, but not familiar with calling it "goa"
Name some CD's I can look for.

i love trance, progressive house, and house music. i live not too far from new york, and thats what they play in most clubs there. lots of good lookin people there.......lots of gearheads. they dont let ugly people in unless they tip the bouncer

womb raider -- you're right, it'll always be a small following, i think that's part of what makes it cool. it's kind of like a cult and going to a goa party is kind of like going to church.

freak show -- it's hard to name specific artists because most of them just release a couple of songs in compilations but never release a full-length album. i think my favorite goa band is an israeli group called "astral projection"; everything those guys do is wicked and ultra high-quality. i have an extensive goa collection, but i buy it either because of the label (flying rhino, TIP world, hypnotic, iguana are all very good labels) or because i get to listen to it beforehand like on www.futuretrance.com

john937 -- goa is very different from normal progressive trance. it's called goa because it originated in the coast of goa, india. it is fast (+/- 144bpm), hard and with a lot of distortion, floaty backgrounds and very psychedelic. goa is made specifically for lsd (as opposed to ecstacy with prog. trance). it is very deeply rooted in the acid culture because it is the only psychedelic that was available in it's pure form in india; ecstacy was usually of very poor quality, so it was rarely used. this type of music is also heavily influenced by hindu and buddhist motifs. you could say that it really is buddhist music because it is balanced and neutral. it is not happy, happy like house or progressive, but it is also never negative or harmful. dancing all night to loud goa puts you in a state of mind that is very unique (it doesn't matter wether you're high or sober). once you experience goa in it's fullest , it's hard not to get addicted to it.

Decibel - I give massages, as in person on the table, oil, the whole works.
I like to turn the music on semi-loud, at least loud enough to drown out the person on the table's thoughts.
That way they drift off and have an almost out of body experience.
But the music can't have lyrics, cause that puts the person in a verbal reasoning state I'm trying to turn off.
So electronic music with no lyrics or foreign lyrics works well.
But I also don't want to put them to sleep which so much "chill" music does.
And most of the "house" music has an awfull percussion undercurrent of Thud Thud Thud Thud that get's on their nerves.
I'm having trouble finding released CD's that fit.
Sounds like you know your shit.
If I walk into a "progressive" music store (ie NOT BlockBuster) and talk to a person there that knows music,
what category of music do I ask for ?
Some of the music Ive found that does work is
Banco De Gaia, Dream Dance, Robert Miles(except vocals), Deep Forest (a little slow), Sundance, Enigma, Some Tangerine Dream
Actually, Enigma's MCMXC AD was perfect.
Any ideas ?

Yes Astral Projection are probably the best and most recognized goa producers.

For all the people confused with all of the sub-genres in electronic music I'll try to dig up a link which categorizes every possible genre and gives an audio sample of it.

See, I wouldn't say I love Trance b/c I hate epic cheesy trance (Tiesto Oakenfold George Acosta Ferry Cornstein). Then again I love tech trance/progressive/tribal/deep.

If you're buying records you look for certain labels. If it's comps I usually go with artists. Stay away from Ministry of Sound compilations (Ibiza Anthems 200) and stick w/ the mainstays (digweed, sasha, howells, seaman, tengaglia).

Just mho if you want good, timeless, progressive music

House music all night long!
