Does any body own a GPS?

I used to have one on my bass boat but sold it when I sold the boat. Don't really have a need for one at the moment.

I don't have a need for one either, but that doesn't stop me :) Used it quite a bit when i was flying, but not doing that for the next year or so.

Mine was fun to use and piddle with. If I was catching fish in a certain spot that was not located near anything (just open water) I could punch in the information and return to that exact same position. I used to tournament fish a lot and it was very helpful. I wouldn't dare go out in a boat without one.:)

I have 3 of them. I use them for hunting in CO. I went on a week long pack in pack out Elk hunting trip. Had a $900 one and ended up using my $160 Magellan most of the time. I always had a back up. It's good to know how to "really" use a map and compass to plot you location and where you are. Most people don't really know how to do this and rely to much on GPS. I took a week course on it and still have problems sometimes.

I have my pilots license and I use my hand held all the time. The planes I rent don't usually have GPS unless you shell out the big bucks. I fly a 152 most of the time, just to take chix up and short trips for dinner, and always enter the long/lat of the airport which I'm landing in and it gives me ETA (estimated time of arrival) and distance to the airport, average speed, all kinds of shit. I really don't have to use them anymore, but I always keep one in the plane to be safe.

I've used a couple of Garmin OEM GPS engines for various projects. I'm used to using a laptop or handheld computer for storage of the map data, so it's hard for me to go to the small all in one devices. I'd probably use one of those small ones if I starting backpacking again.

If that's you in your avatar, can I go backpacking with you on your next hunting trip?:D
