Doctors suck

Code of conduct.

Doctors have a code of conduct they have to act by......
It has two sets of conflicting obligations; the duty to the patient's wishes and the duty to human life.

The personal wishes of a patient may sometimes conflict with what he saw as his duty to human life; which is to prevent or minimize the chances of ill health.
For example years ago.. when I was about 15 or so I went to ask a doctor for high androgenic steriods but he would not give it to me (IMO that is an example of the duty to human life overiding the duty to the patient's wishes.)
But a few years ago, I went to the doctor and got prescribed steriods as by that time I was in my early 20's very fit due to years of physical conditioning etc, in that case my wishes did not interfer with his duty to human life as I could handle the doses with his help in monitoring my system (blood, urine test etc).

The back problem is a very sensitive topic and the approach of the doctor to the situation is difficult as some are extra- cautious about stopping ANY potential harm, while others are satisfied with fixing the problem when they arise.

Exactly. That's my job. :D

Just mind that back bro. If you end up on the shelf, who will play with me? That should be your biggest concern.

some people will never understand the lifestyle of a lifter. this is true of all people outside of us. my dad enjoys watching me lift but he doenst seem to understand that this is my lifestyle now, and im not just powerlifting to dick around. im powerlifting becuase its in me now. he always says stuf like," i dont want you to become a slave to your body" damn man my body is my slave.
i dont care im gonna lift till the day i die. and the only doctors ive come across who understand are some orthopaedics at the sports med place, who have been elite athelets.

Think how it is for a female bodybuilder/fitness freek with low back injury and some idiot male doc says you should not be lifting heavy anyways because you are a woman. That is only one of stupid things said.

Anyways, I hope the new doc does ya good and helps you find better ways to live with your injuries.

Hammer, thanks. I'm going to be very straight forward with the next guy and hope he responds well.

Happyastro, I understand what your saying. But, its not like I have lung cancer, and am emphatically going to continue smoking against my doctor's recommendation to stop. Professional athletes go through surgical procedures like we go through socks. How many doctors are going to tell the $90 million running back to consider a lifestyle change? The doctors are there so the athletes can continue to be athletes.

Gymtime, if I end up on the shelf, you can always get that 6 year-old girl that was spotting you when you were pressing the pink dumbells the other day

LIftbig, "I don't want you to become a slave to your body." I wouldn't even know what to say if someone said that to me. That would tell me that it was just so far out of their comprehension that its pointless to try.

takniteasy, I've never thought of it that way. Just think of what Spatts and the other hardcore ladies on the boards have to deal with. I bet everybody is always spouting this kinda shit to them. "eww, you really want to get all big and look like a guy?"....."That sport just isn't meant for women, you should stop before you hurt youself, get into tennis." Damn.

LMAO @ Thaibox....yeah, I get that alot. Funny thing is, I'm not very big at all. A certain member of my family, who will remain nameless out of respect  , is ALWAYS saying things like that to me. One day I caught her off guard with my tape measure. Before she could blink I had her thigh measurement, waist measurement, and was on her shoulders.....all of them larger than mine. I didn't have to say a word. :)

I haven't had good luck with docs either, until recently. In fact, I'm going to see my new sports med doc today. I saw him about my shoudler back in June/July and he was able to accurately diagnose the problem, confirm it was a muscle weakness and not a tendon, etc. and I was back on track in about 6-8 weeks. He never once suggested I just try doing something different with my shoulders. I am seeing him today about my hips...they've been out of alignment (front to back) since I carried my ten pound son around. I'm sure he'll have me as good as new in no time. He's the former team doc for the New York Giants. He never gives me crap for what I love to do.

Lot's of doctors suck, mine in particular. I blew out my ACL in 8th grade and they told me my leg was fine. So I kept playing. I would hyperextend my leg and drop with my leg all numb and it would fill with fluids. So I went back they were like well it looks like you have a knee fusion. OK whats that? It's were your knee cap rubs up against your femur. Ok how do I fix that. So they sent me to physical therapy. Came back, first day of practice it happens again. Obviously I needed more physical therapy and not an MRI or anything like the doctors think. To make a long story short doctors misdiagnosing because they didn't feel like putting in the effort for an MRI cost me a possible collegiate career. I played soccer with a torn ACL all the way till the very end of junior year before I had to finally give it up. Like you thaibox I refused to change my way of life. I loved soccer, I played for the number 1 ranked high school in the nation and for a club that had teams winning nationals. Years of that crap take their toll though. When I quit soccer, I had fully torn ACL in my right leg, messed my other ACL in my left leg because my left leg had to take so much stress because of the right. I also had shredded cartilage and arthritis. I had to give up something I loved because a doctor was too lazy or whatever to order a test. So yea I share your opinion that doctors suck.

Keep shopping for Doc's. I had back pain for 11 years (horse fell on top of me). L3 finally blew out and the pain was horrible. The only comfortable position was ?, there was none, could not even put on my own socks. Went from quack to quack and finally found Doc in El Paso, Texas. Greg Misenheimer, straight shooter, did surgery (removed 60% of disc)and I was back starting normality in 30 days. This was 13 years ago and so far so good. I wish you the best of luck.

That is key. They have to understand that quitting is not an option...
