Doctors Hours: The new Banker hours

velvett

Elite Mentor

Maybe it's just by me.

Banks are open longer 8-5 or 4pm 6 days a week.
Post office M-F 8-7pm Sat til 4pm

Doctors!?!?!?!?

9-1pm
1-2pm CLOSED FOR LUNCH?
2-4pm

WTF?

What's up with that?

No wonder you have to wait 3+ weeks for an appt.

I agree... and my doc decided he would have two days a week that he was off at noon... damn that sucks when I have an emergency.

If it's an emergency, you should go to the emergency room. A general practitioner is not the place to go for gunshot wounds, cranial trauma, fractures, dismemberment, the plague, impalement, hypoxia, ect ect.

You are a sarcastic one.

I've gone to the ER with a migraine that would not leave and I ran out of meds and the doctor would not call the pharmacy to renew my script (he was such an ass) without an appt and I couldn't get an appt for another two weeks.

Anywhoo - the ER check in person was like why didn't you go to your doctor? So she pursed her lips at me which at my then current state of pain and contemplation if running into traffic to kill myself, set me off screaming at her.

Doctor's hours rule, most of the ones that I go to shut down on Fridays now too!

You should see my hours

8 to 8:30 am-WORK
8:30 am to 11 AM-brunch
11am to noon-Siesta
Noon to 4 Pm- do nothing
4PM to 9Pm- work on business proposals and check on constuction updates

i'd like to find out more about this, please.

dentists have the same shitty hours.

Why go to an ER? Here they're all full of Mexicans.

Dentists have the highest suicide rates in California (among white males - only statistics prevalent apply to this group).

Chemists are also up there.

I fully agree. The bank that we go to has 2 branches here in town, 1 the next town over, atm's every corner and another branch 2 towns over...Where as our doc is only around 4 days a week and is only 9-4

I just made an appt with the Endo and it's 1 month and 3 days away.

No PA to cover during lunch??

Odd

You're lucky to gt an office where a human picks up during open hours - usually you get a menu, a transfer to an operator and then you are prompted to leave a message. I usually leave message and keep calling until I get someone.

Banks are actually under competitive pressure to provide good customer service.

You just want a "reason" to fling poo
a reason? for that? when isn't it time to fling? hmmm? like grabbing a dirty diaper by the corner and winding up like the hammer throw and just whipping it at one of your friends. it's gratifying.

that is a joke of a job

About 2 weeks ago Pfe cut 10,000 jobs most being sales reps. Have you ever met a pharmaceutical sales rep? pfft
that's what i'm getting at. they walk in with that cheesy smile with an Olive Garden bag in one arm and go to the front of the line. and then, God forbid, they have to wait 2 minutes, glancing around with that "i'm not comfortable being in a sick, shabbily dressed room full of people" look. do you need to go to school for that?

trust me they are losers. My father was a sales manager for 30 years at a one the big dogs and seeing these young twit females try to sell products was a joke. he told me first hand. Yes they were the cute 26 year old type but that was about it. He was sad when the day of Affrim. action was in place and he had to hire females and minorities. The best minorities to hire he said were Indians from India.

Keep in mind, you're just counting the doc's office hour. Most docs also work at a hospital, where they do rounds. Some general practitioners also serve as the plant doctor for industry, and do rounds at nursing homes as well. Odds are that your doc works more hours in a week than you do...just not all at his office.

Oh I know that - but the hours have changed period - I've noted a large change the past 6 years I've been living here.

You have an extremely small window when you can speak staff - also quickly shrinking.

Not all doctors have hospital affiliations and many of those that do are a part of a group so there are only 4-8 possible days per month you might be able to get an appt with the Dr of your choice but there is always one in the office, at the hospital and two others on call.

As the daughter of a doctor - I can appreciate the hours that are put in and because I know what it's like I can also freely comment that private practice is not what it was and continues to change. Bad for the patients and the doctors.

Drs. suck, but my kids' pediatrician is awesome. He'll take us any day our kid is sick. We get the same day appointment. Awesome. Open at reasonable hours and he accepts our calls when our kids are coming down with something , just for questions and stuff. We have his cell phone and pager #'s. He gave them to us.

We LOVE him.

He's Chief of Pediatrics here at a local hospital. Not some up and coming "needy" guy who wants a name for himself, either.

Sometimes I go to a Dr. who isn't in my insurance plan that cost $70 for an office visit (versus $10 co-pays for a Dr. who is in my plan) just because you can walk in without an appointment and are out of their fast.

how bout those snappily dressed pharmaceutical reps?
Ugh, don't get me started on pharmaceutical reps. The females are gorgeous and well dressed, and they have excellent profiles on physicians they meet. Everything from their prescribing patterns (yes, this information is maintained by a national company and sold to the pharmaceutical industry) to their personal hobbies and reading interests.

My hospitals strictly forbids pharmaceutical reps from providing us lunch/dinner, free pens, or even visiting us. I enjoy it more that way since our ED is always busy and I have no time for them. (Although they are excellent eye candy to stare at!)

Regarding physician hours, most of the physicians I know work 8:30a-4:30p with an hour for lunch. They also see admitted patients (inpatients) from around 6:30-8:30 am and again in the afternoon for a brief period of time. This is why I did not choose internal medicine as a career. Most work a lot of hours each week (60-80 counting call).
