Do you train when sick?

Goals -
Primary goal: Hypertrophy
Secondary goal: Strength

I am sick and had a fever today, but if I feel up to it tomorrow, would I still benefit from training?

Obviously, I don't expect to lift at my best or make any strength gains, but surely if I lift in the 6 - 10 rep range and lift to failure, it would still be beneficial?

Do you train when sick?

I'd recommend not to lift until failure. Just give your muscles enough to let them know they've been to the gym and go home.

Give your body chance to recover. If you've just come through fever (as in yesterday) then it would be pretty unconscionable to go to the gym and spread your viral nastiness to others. The last thing you'd want is for them to mutate it and give it back to you in a few days time.

I agree, there's nothing wrong with working out while sick, but I would kill myself either. I know some people will disagree with this, but when I'm sick I use the Bowflex. Not an amazing machine but it gets the job done well enough when I'm sick, and keeps me from getting the rest of the gym sick.

k to you for looking out for other gym members. I wish my gym had more people like that. Shit, some old guy the other day sneezed right into his hands and then used a pair of dumbells - disgusting!

That shit pisses me off, just like people not washing the hands leaving the bathroom! You can live how ever the hell you want at home, but not at the gym where we'll be sharing equipment

Yeah, don't go to the hot moist gym and share your cold!

There was a cover story in the Evening Standard here in London about how gyms and heath clubs are speading the MRSA (superbug) just as fast as hospitals!

Saying that, if you want to train(!fuck em!), I reccomend just doing cardio to get the blood moving a bit, do some stretching, and maybe use the steam room.

I personally do, just for the same reason the doctor says to drink more hot tea: to get your sweat glands going and exctrete liquids with diseases from your body. After all, sweat is compromised of urea, so its all good. :D

I always train when sick, unless its a stomache virus. Ive even trained with fever over 100 degrees I believe. I need a very good reason to skip a training session. Just the way I do things though.

If it's something minor like a sore throat or a stuffed up nose, I'll work out.

If it's something more serious or a combination of symptoms I'll take a few days off until I'm feeling better.

Explosive diarreah is a good reason to cancel a lifting session, or even dinner plans! Projectile vomitting is just another fuckin day at the office kids! A seven course feast may also be a good enough reason to train the next day. Ive known fuckin skeletons to put in 24 hour shifts in the gym! YOUVE JUST GOT TO KILL THAT SHIT!! ALL OF IT!!
