it's pretty tough for somebody who's never experienced diabetes to imagine what it would be like and feel like. people can be told to eat right and exercise or you'll regret it, all day long. But they will examine those consequences through the filter of their current positive emotions, and downplay the impacts.
if you really wanna cut back on unhealthy eating, and smoking, etc,
put people through like a simulator at doctors visits that would allow patients to experience chronic ailments like diabeetus or emphysema for a few hours.

Diabetes is my family killer....mostly type II but my niece has type I....I wouldn't wish that on any child.
We're immune to cancer but type II--->cardio disease kills us in our late 70's early 80's...historically.
