in a bio class my prof said the body could live to 140-150 yrs...

W already have bor

Who in their right freaking mind would want to live on this orbiting cesspool for eternity??? :worried:

Even assuming it were possible to have the requisite quality of health in order to enjoy a productive life at 100+ years of age, there's no way I'd want to.

If I had to define "hell" in my own terms, it would without question include "immortality" of this life.

Thanks, but no thanks. Assuming I'm forced to suffer the indignities of an 80+ year life on this planet, that's more than enough for me.

My prof. said that anyone that used steroids would be dead before the age of 40, but he was full of shit.

Highlander. Haha. Loved that movie. "It's better to burn out, than to fade away."

Well if I could stay just the way I am, I might want to live forever. It's the knowledge of what lies ahead that scares me.

It's the process that scares me. Do you know the amount of suffering that many people go through before death?

not even Goku :( only half human

Well, technically, at the end of GT he became something equivalent of an all-present spirit after defeating all of the dragons. That's pretty much immortality, minus the physical presense of the body or the soul.

Painfully aware of it bro. I watched my mother rot from the inside for 7 months due to cancer before she passed on. That still haunts me to this day, and that was almost 1/2 a lifetime ago for me.

One can only hope and/or pray for a quick demise when it's their time.

FWIW, I know this'll prob. get slammed on this BB, but I find comfort in the following:

"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."

Romans 8:18

Very sorry to hear that man. And how ironic it is that I have the inscription of Romans 8:24 tattooed on my shoulder. That is my daughter's name.

Death makes life important.

Remember that silly.

I don't need death to make my life important. If me and my family and loved ones could stay young and healthy forever, and I could get sex anytime I want (never tire of that), then I think I'd be content forever. Unfortunately, that's not reality.

Possible but I expect us to blow each other up. Or develop a super virus that pretty well wipes us out.

I need to look into an island. Seriously.

Me and the Barbi twins and an island.

absolute immortality? not sure...but for a long, long time, yeah

if you could offset any dementia, and repair the cardiovascular system, keep kidneys/liver ok or replace them, that sort of thing (all around the corner really) then yes, the human body could last aaaaaaaaages

I don't think it's impossible considering how far man has come in a relatively short period. Maybe the only thing that could stop us is God. Assuming that God exists.

i can't imagine living 140 years! imagine what a mess you would look like. the only way i could see it is if everyone else did too. i have a 96 year old grandmother who has seen countless friends and relatives and contemporaries pass away. it would be too much too handle. too freaky.

NanoTech will do it for us, rebuilding at the cellular level. Once we master a needle full of nanobots, we will be around for a long time.

......Still doesn't stop a bus from smearing us across 3rd Ave. though. ;)

It's aready been done in the lab with rats and mice. Our Health club has some nice connctions with the medical board here in NJ. We had a Doctor from the Medical Board come in the do a seminar on cancer for our members (we have good member benefits) and he talked about research on the human DNA and the Mapping of our DNA, all very interesting stuff. But he also went off on a tangent and spoke about cell death and the mechanism that allows it to replicate only so many times before it dies. So the mechanism has been isolated (this is for cancer research) and the scientists have managed to turn it off in the lab mice and rats. He said they have these animals already living 2-3 times their life span and still going he was saying how it's going to be a HUGE dillema on who will get acess to this once it's perfected and humal trials start in a decade or so, his exact words were "this is not science fiction, this is here today and it's being done by the pharmaceutical giants".

Left me with something to think about.

Yep. I read that before, very interesting stuff. Technically, expanding our lifespans to many times what they currently are is only a matter of time, not a question of "can we".
