Freak Show

I'm usually trapped at work (a gym) for like 40+ hours per week. Being there you get a distorted image of the typical american. I've spent most of my life in sports complexes or gyms. I was at the beach today and you know what? AMERICANS ARE TRULY GETTING FATTER! Its fuckin amazing! You hear/read the stats but like I said, being that I'm in a gym most days you don't see it. Young, old, black, white, EVERYONE! It actually makes me sick. Now I know being in MI is not like all other states, but GOD DAMN! I could not get over how fat these lil kids were. The boys looked like pubescent girls running around without their tops on. MAN BOOBS AHOY!!!!!!! This may sound corny, but we got an epidemic on our hands.

i agree--sometimes i get looks on the beach like i'm the freak and they way everyone else looks is supposed to be normal.........but- if you want to look the way most people will never look-you got to do what most people will never do(train hard) RADAR

yeah i hear ya man, all my friends are like that and i use to be on the chubby side myself but i am SO happy im out of that. Yeah i def. see fatter americans by the day, but im very concerned for my father, he is on the overweight side and has high cholesterol and i tell him to go to the gym but still refuses

Fun with Fat People #55996

Rub cooking oil all over your body and proceed to walk to the nearest Wal-Mart or local equivalent. Once the obese people begin to catch the scent and follow you with their mouths open, ravenously looking for the sweet nectar of lard, it's time to begin the plan.

Once the whales have step foot in a 10 foot proximity, pull out a shuriken, or other such throwing object, and fling it into the abdomen of the beast. Most likely, it will be caught in the adipose tissue and won't faze the beast, but that's not the point.

Now, grab a spear, or other pointy object (dart, blast bar etc) and toss it into the fat one's neck or eyes. They should be somewhat immobilized.

It's time for the finale. Reach for your cordless drill and drill 3 or 4 holes into the chest cavity and skull of your victi...errrr patient. Now, proceed to stomp the living fuck out of the whale until it coughs up bloody sputum.

Now shoot it in the head with a harpoon gun.

Laugh for as long as you see fit.

yeap, even here in San Diego, there are some nasty people. Honestly..prolly only 5 percent, (if even that), I would consider to be in decent shape.

It's quite simple really..

In most schools they pump the kids with drugs and food all damn day long to what seems to me a way to make their jobs easier. Teachers and administrators don't have to do anything but round up the herd, pop a pill, feed often and regularly, shove them in front of a computer screen and then ship them off to their respective buses and/or after school programs.

The parents don't give a shit because they were too selfish in the first place to have a kid but did anyway - most likely to keep the marriage or start one. The parents either can't see beyond their own *cry me a river* dilemmas, so how could one expect them to care for their child like a parent? Most of them are still kids themselves and haven't grown into adults capable of noticing a problem with the growing waistline of their child.

So please explain to me if no one will care and those hired and paid to care don't want to bother because *God forbid they should have exert an effort* to do their jobs. (You know they have their own problems to deal with...)

So, Mr. Freak Show - What would you do about these obese and/or cardiovascular nightmare waiting to happen children, if you had the funds, resources and time to do so?

You make a good point. I almost feel its too late, but I will try. First, I'm sick of hearing about PE programs in schools getting cut. If I had the money and power to make decisions, I would make it mandatory that there be a PE class once a day, EVERY day for one hour. No bullshit doctor's notice that my fat kid's fat ankles are too swollen from sitting on them while playing Sega. I know diet plays a role but I think the problem stems from lack of activity. Look at kid's leisure times and how they are spent.
Also, it starts at the home. Its easy to plunk your kid in front of the CPU and let it baby sit. Parents need to be made aware of the reality of obesity, diabetes, and orthopedic problems that face young kids. Most think, "oh they'll out grow it." When in fact, they don't. When I have kids, they will be encouraged to be active in sports. I will make the time to be there for them. Note: I said encouraged not forced. I think organized sports not only help with weight management but they help with building social skills and relationship development.

You want to see some fat on the hoof, call your local clinic and make an appointment with a dietician. My apolagies to the four in this country who are not yet obese.

I remember when I was a kid, my parents would be like go play outside....and that's what me and my brothers would do all day. Play army, football, basketball....anything and everything.

I agree there's a problem with fat, but I don't blame the parents.
I don't have kids, but I'm around lots of co-workers who do.
These folks are constantly driving their kids around to soccer, dance class, baseball etc, and the kids are still fat.
They all complain that one the kid gets home they're glued to their computer screens,
so yeah, inactivity is part of it,
But mostly I blame the diet.
Parents today need a way to feed their kids quickly, and must rely on fast food at least part time.
You can't get a tasty healthy meal at a fast food place, can't be done.
Yeah, they sell low fat chicken salads. Ever try to get a kid to eat it?
McDonalds has convinced America that french fried potatoes qualifies as a vegetable!
I say put a tax on unhealthy fast food.
They put a "sin" tax on cigarettes justified by the fact that cigarettes cause public hospitals to care for indegent cancer patients.
Use the same logic to tax unhealthy food, put some pressure on the restraunt industry to offer healthy choices.

Damn, you are so sexy when you get like this. I like it when women don't hold back. Let's do lunch, then dinner, then dessert, and then umm.... well you know.

John, I'm sorry but I can't agree with you on this one.
Where does a child learn his or her eating habits?
Either at home or in school.

How long does it take to make a kid a healthy sandwich?
How long does it take to make a tuna, turkey or chicken sandwich?

Now how long does it take to haul that soccer team thru the drive thru at a fast food palace?

I would bet it takes longer to go thru the drive thru!
Why would you feed your kid the crap from a fast food restaurant???
Why?

Because the parent is too lazy to make their kid a meal - a healthy meal. Picky eater? After he/she starves a little he/she will stop being a stubborn little brat and eat what you make for them to eat.

I have seen many parents shove food in a kids face to shut them up. They don't want to deal with them so the shove a burger in their face - hopefully it will make them tired and they will pass out.

Fat kids on the soccer team?
BOO HOO - what is he/she a bench warmer?
Or does he/she have a health problem that their parent have not paid attention to?

Fat parent = fat kid.

A child does not have to be fat, it is his/her parent's responsibility to teach the child good eating habits to grow up to be a healthy adult. If you don't have time, you make time, if you can't make time - why did you make a child in the first place?

Fat kid with poor eating habits = fat adult.

You're going to blame the restaurants???
What they need to curb people from eating like cows?
The restaurant chef has to change his/her recipes because you can't control what you eat and how much you eat?

That ridiculous.

ROWRRRRRRRRR
I'm a feisty chicky.

HAHAHHA!

I live on the south side of town.
I work on the north side of town.
I can't count the number of times I've been away from home
and needed something to eat and the only places around were
fast food places.
I drive up to the menu and everything they offer is fat, fat, fat.
So if I need healthy choices, I can imagine the parents need it even more.
These days both those parents you're blaming are working full time jobs.
Your advise for parents to make their kids a healthy meal was perfect in Victorian America when the woman stayed home.
Today's reality is no matter how the parents have raised their kids,
the kids are on their own when the parents are at work, and
a kid will order cheese nachos over skinnless chicken anyday.
And in most of the fast food around here, it doesn't matter, cause the skinnless chicken isn't on the menu.

Then you and the parent that have obese children with poor eating habits needs to get their lazy asses out of bed 10-20 minutes earlier and bring a healthy lunch.

Or find a deli or go to a 7-11 and grab a yogurt & a banana or something - anything but a freaking fast food burger.

I was 19 when I had my first fast food burger. That's bullshit that the only food you can find to eat quickly is fat fast food. PULEASE.

YOU ARE MAKING EXCUSES for people to be lazy.
I don't care if both parents work - get up and make your kid a sandwich or teach your brat kid to get his/her ass out of bed and make their own lunch.

You don't have TEN minutes to make a meal?
You don't want to have ten minutes.

I used to commute 1 hour and 15-25 minutes each way 6 days a week for 3 years and FOUND the time to pack a lunch or purchase a salad with chicken or tuna.

YOU MAKE THE TIME.

And another thing - WOMEN in perfect Victorian America???? What are you delusional? You expect the woman to do everything don't you?

Will the little woman also cut your big mac for you so you don't have to strain your mouth?

Oh and while I can be a ranting bitch...

I am nice so...

John - have a Happy Birthday.

That's the root of the problem...excellent, intelligent posts Velvett!

I chalk it up to mass ignorance, stupidity, and laziness also.....
Why is health important when in society making money or exhibiting a certain 'status' in life to their cohorts is what most people think IS important rather than the well-being of their children ?
Diet/processed foods and our sedentary livestyles are to blame for the obesity rate, but the underlying causes are what Velvett has alluded to
I don't know how many people I see in parking lots waiting 5 minutes for a spot 30 ft closer to some store when they could just park a little further away and walk in a shorter amount of time-just plain laziness...it almost seems like people avoid any physical exertion like the plague-I guess it's not 'in vogue' right now....

Damn . . . this post wore me out reading it. What else can I say that hasn't been said by velvett except that I agree with her totally.

Most parents don't want to give there kids the time of day and act like the child has become a burden to them.

Something else that is becoming somewhat of an irony is that you can hold a more intelligent conversation with a child than you can with most parents these days.

I'm surprised that I'm not overweight. My parents were (are) junk food junkies, NEVER exercise, ALWAYS watching tv. God love em'.

And you'll think that this is lame, but I was so traumatized by PE in junior high (I was a shy, small girl, picked last all the time), that in high school I was allowed to waive it. I took a year of physics instead! :nerd:

And I found that I liked running. I've never felt too comfortable in group sports, but I've always thought about soccer. I think that I'm digressing from the topic. I shall stop now.

XX,
PE can be shitty for some, but I still say its very important. If they actually hired some qualified PE teachers, I think they would be able to find a way to include almost everyone. There's always gonna be that 1% that hates it though. For the good of the whole, I think it still needs to be there.

You guys are picking on fat people. They have rights too. This thread is offensive. Johnny, oh Johnny please do something before some poor fat kid sees this and starts crying.

And Rogue motherfucker, if you talk about Velvett like that again I'm going to rip your head off through the fucking telephone line!

I think people just want something to tickle their tastebuds. It takes alot of effort to eat healthy, that is, if you are lifting weights and all. Damn that reminds me I can't take anymore of this canned tuna.....shit i'm going to puke!

ya know in britain they cut PE to a 1/2 hr a week...pathetic...i used to be sooo fat :( ...then thru lack of knowledge of PE i went from fat to ridiculously skinny

oh btw...joh937 r u britsh in origin. i always figured u were/lived here, maybe im wrong. maybe u wont see this. oh well :(
