If its family or family friends I usually kiss them on the cheek. This includes bot males and females. I don't actually place my lips on their cheek though. I kiss the air and press my cheek on theirs.
If it's my male friends and/or their significant other I usually kiss them on the cheek and do actually place my lips on their cheeks.
If I meet a new person who is Spanish, depending on where I meet them or where I am introduced to them, I also kiss them on the cheek after the introduction. Like family, I don't actually kiss their cheek.
It's just customary.

The real strange one for some people is Family that kisses on the lips..
I dated a girl and her Mom and Dad kissed her full on the lips each time
she visited.. No Tongue.
As we got serious dating several months, Mom started in on me
kissing me on the mouth.
Good thing she was Hot..

On my father's side of the family(the Italians), the kiss/hug is customary when arriving and leaving a family get together. My dqad's family is large so this entails a good 10 min to kss/hug everyone before you leave LOL
My mom's side of the family (the Brits) doesnt really do the kiss thing, its just a hug for everyone around.
