Do you hide an extra key to your house?

Anywhere outside in case you get locked out or maybe leave an extra key with a neighbor or family member?

Where do you put it?

Please E-mail me.

Also, I would mark the key a house number that is 2 or 3 houses down in case anyone found it by accident, they won't come to your house. HAA!

I hide mine next to my fav flower..

Right in the soil... Not great for my nails..

Always works..

How exactly do you see yourself getting locked out unless its your wife doing the locking ?

Serious query ^

With Deadbolts on every external door, I don't see myself doing that unless I lost
my entire key set. And then I wouldn't have a truck to get home with anyway.

I have a keypad on the garage door opened that I could use and we leave the garage door into the house unlocked.

I didn't know we had a key to our house here and the door will open from inside even if it is locked. So my dog is outside and his leash catches the door and I go outside to get his toy. Well, he takes off to come with me, I am just in my boxers and SLAM. Talk about Oil hitting the Anus, that little bastard shut the door with his leash, small cut in the door where it will fit.

So I got to break a storm window and lift myself back in. Worst part of it all was the fact I had did squats for the first time the day before and my legs were bad off. You know, you can't go door to door when you are just in your boxers, what if a kid answers the door?

Getting accidently locked out of a modern locked door is pretty hard IMO

If the deadbolt is locked, you can't open the door at all from the inside with it locked.

If the bottom lock is locked, you can't turn the knob and open the door at all from the inside with it locked.

Losing your house key after locking things up from the outside would be the way I could see the need for a second house key. And like I said, I can go in the garage as long as the power is on. Otherwise, I've gotta break glass.

ok enough posting, we get it. YLifter can get into his house without a key.
Pat yourself on the back.

I leave one out in the dryer vent so my son can get in after school, don't trust him to keep the key with him without losing it.

No hide-a-keys here, but there is a pretty cool key lockbox that you can buy. You mount it outside somewhere, hidden or in plain sight, and it's opened by code only. Most are pretty cheap and probably a little safer than the 'fake rock'.

Key safe link

What key, with 4 kids and one wife, the doors at this place are always unlocked,

I don't even have a key except to the front door and the garage,

This house has never been locked,

If a burglar tried to come in here, some one would try to feed him or have him take out the trash,

He would only get in trouble if he tried to turn off a TV

I'd like to leave it at the neighbor's (my in-laws) backyard or something and mark it "garage" so if it is found they would think it's for the garage AND the neighbor's garage. Would they really say "AHAAA! this is for this guy's neighbor's house."

Nah, but I have a spare apartment and car key on a clip hidden under my car in a very hard to reach spot. I can barely get it and I'm 6'3

You could just call that guy who stole from you last year or so.

He seemed to be good at getting into your house.

Yeah, I was going to recommend this. Get a magnetic key holder and hide it somewhere.

If you feel adventurous, you can bury a key a few inches underground and just dig it up in emergencies.

I got drunk one night and buried it. I decided to use a treasure map to do so. The problem was, I used a maze that was on a place mat from a restaurant, and I didn't remember where I started in my yard ('cause i was drunk). Also, when the acid wore off, I couldn't see the lines from the maze, which makes it very difficult to negotiate. Now, no matter how much acid I do I can't see the same maze, and I threw the place mat away because I colored outside the lines and was disgusted with myself. I've been walking around my back yard now for almost a year, tripping my face off, trying to find that damn key. I don't know my ass from my elbow, and I'm afraid I'll lock myself out of my house. I'll probably rent a backhoe this weekend and just dig up my whole yard.

A wrod of caution. If you plan on digging up your yard, do NOT hire illegals to help you! Trust me.

Also call the utility company to find out where the gas lines are. Please think of the children.

If I got sent to jail on the weekend, I think it would be horribly inconvenient. Like bad inconvenient. Not the good one.
