Another reason why this city rulez! Was in chinese and taco bell restaurants this week and both times some fat hispanic lady with a sign "I got 3 kids, please help us.." and walked from table to table.

Of course some doofus had to hand over a dollar. Then she left and went to another restaurant. I wonder how much she pulls in - aside from the welfare she gets.

At the risk of making a razorcookie-style post, it really is this simple:

"You get what you subsidize."

The more hand-outs we do, the more hand-outs will be requested. I'm sure there's a more compassionate position out there. But what is more compassionate? A life of subsistence living paid for by strangers and taxpayers or a doing your damnest to make it on your own?

Two days ago this woman knocked on my door. My oldest son answered and she handed him a card with the sign language alphabet on one side and a message on the other asking for payment for this note. He gave her a dollar. We can't even get away from beggars at home anymore.




He was real pissed when I told him she pbly wasn't even a def/mute.

not in my area, back in CR there's this huge fat lady that has like 6 kids, she sits in a bench in the mini mall and sends them out with a sob story to beg for money, once i was with my sister at taco bell and one of them came up to us and said he needed money because he was hungry, my sister offered him a taco and he said "great another taco" and turned around and left..... little fucker....

Got my favorite bum right outside the chipolte on east 66th. I usually give him the 3rd chipolte taco.
Bums > People handing out flyers in your face.

My fave bum chills around Union Sq. in NYC. He holds a sign that says "Obama promised change. Where's mine?" and he wears a chainmail vest made out of soda can pop tabs. Now that's resourcefulness.

I gave him a permanent marker once so he could continue asking other people for money and in return he tried to give me a tissue he pulled out of his pocket. Nice little bum. I told him he could keep it.

Chainmail, and yeah that is resourceful, maybe he's not a bum, must in the wrong timperiod... atleast zipcode, cost of living, I'm in accord with said chainmail dude.

I occasionally see a beggar move through a fast-food restaurant quickly; maybe hitting up 5 or 6 people before the manager spots them. It's definitely over-the-top, and highly RUDE. I guess it also takes a lot of balls to ask somebody for cash, and even more so in a restaurant. The most common ruse for begging around Ventura County, CA, is the gas can. They say "My car with my kids in it is out of gas just around the corner, and my (husband or boyfriend) is a deadbeat" I'd like to say "Why the F did you go load the kids in a car with an empty gas tank??!!", but I usually just say I have no cash and my truck is Diesel. Those are almost always scams, but I guess there are a few people out there who would actually put themselves and kids in that position. On the rare occasion that I find they're telling the truth, I get MY gas can and go put 5 gallons in their car.... NO cash. In fact I just did that for somebody last month. Only because I saw the car sitting with the flashers on, at a red curb with the gas door open. If they went to that much trouble to beg for a few gallons of gas, they earned it, LOL. But I think that one was legit.
