Do you ever think about your own mortality?

My father had his heart attack about the same age that I am now. All the males on his side die at the same age. He's two years away from that date.

I've been thinking about this for the past 5 years. I've changed my diet and workout program because of it.

It's funny because when I was younger, I wanted to be the biggest and strongest. I don't know what it was that changed my mind, but now, I just want to be the smallest and the fastest and have drastically altered my diet because of it.

What do you think about when you consider your own mortality?

This is wut I think:

I'm a nihilist that grows increasing negative with age.

I believe only a small percentage of this world's inhabitants are worthy of drawing air and most are a burden to the planet.
Your "free will" is limited and your course is mainly designated by your genome.

You and everyone you know will grow old and die, many after years of insufferable agony.

For most, your time here is a infinitesimal as will be your legacy.

That may be true, but you still have a choice on what you want to do with it.

I just want to make the most out of the time I have, try and raise my son to be the kind of man he should be. and then go out in a blaze of glory

I think to a limited degree
You've got a good point. Let me rephrase it then...

...you always have the choice on how to interpret events and alter the way that you feel.

Good. Bad. Indifferent. It doesn't matter. It only matters how you decide how to perceive a problem / solution.

That sounds like the basis of CBT to me, and you certainly can develop tools to cope with stressors.

I'm not saying that you can't reap the benefits of self-discipline either.

But in the big picture your genetic disposition will determine much of your outcome.

Identical twins raised apart show remarkable similarities in personality traits and idiosyncrasies. fMRI shows neural commonalities of high significance though socio/environmental differences can be radically different.

i wish i knew what a person feels/thinks when they take there own life

I would think utter despair.

I had a roommate in college who's dad did that.

As an outsider it made no sense. He was a well respected man in the community, still in love with his wife, and all of his children were flourishing.

It will always remain a mystery to me.

This is going to sound horrible, but I've always found suicide interesting. There are times when I feel bad and sometimes when I feel melodramatic / drama queen, but it never last long enough to carry through it.

How do you define the "kind of man he should be"?

Why the blaze of glory?

No, it does not sound horrible. I think we all seduce that dark place in different ways.

No, you know. Its despair. We all know.
That's why I like that song "Stuck In A Moment". It reminds me that it's just a moment and that the time will pass.

If it ever gets bad around me, I'll just fly out to you.

The thread was getting sad so I thought I'd liven it up with an eflirt and it's better that I eflirt you vs P3.

i like knowing that deep down that option is always there in case things got really bad

but i would probably wait until my parents died, and my bro was married

respectful of others,a strong leader, not afraid to be his own man, confident and successful. the best gift I will give him is teaching him at a young age how to think for himself.

as for the blaze of glory, well most ff if they had to go would pick a line of duty death, atleast it made a difference. id rather that then old and shitting my drawers

knot if you marry a doctor, and work *wink*wink a couple of days a week from your home in suburbia

nonsense, status, money, and reduced work does not stop negative thinking so its not the best idea to depend on those to make you happy for various reasons.

uuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhh...please...go on...continue........tell me more about how you seduce that dark place....

Ain't nobody getting out of life alive.

That being said, maybe you can exit with some honor and dignity based on the cultural norms of your society.

I do like awards! but given too freely and they loose their value as with everything else.

Are you a bad man Java?

Am I a bad man? Yes, I have been judged and convicted by society..that's all that matters after all.

However, little miss Melody knew I always had one foot out the door just like she did...I'm still very close to that woman. She's a saint, the only argument we ever had was over her volunteering for the feds to pay off her student loans if she joined the Army; I trumped her by telling her I would rat he rout to her father...She still goes to god forsaken countries for her vacation time...

hhmmm, i am confused by this whole poast.

I did ask you if you know you're a bad man, not society though since you mentioned that earlier.

hhmmm, I think I like the direct conversation route better, its too late in wee hours of the night to try to decipher replies. I didn't realize my question was that deep.lol

Who are you and what do you want are always deep philosophical questions; It was always easy being for God and country...in that order.

only think too much. you ask me if i am a bad person and I can say no right away without the need to feel like i need to get into a deep philosophical conversation, examine myself further as well as the human psyche and general nature. Al those are good and all, but you can instintively answer questions like the one asked quickly. If it made you uncomfortable at all, you shoulda said so, or ignore me, Im chill either way.:artist:

Of course everyone thinks they're a good person reactively....I love my mother and my sisters and do my best to provide for them unconditionally...I also killed people because I was told they were my enemy...arbitrarily...It's all subjective...

This is my back and forth with Mel since the early days...

December is an inside joke for both of us since we were both born in early Dec....

Not sure if you guys know this but we have all been promised an eternal life! All you have to do is have faith and stop living in sin! Totally worth it! You guys should try it, it feels soooo good!!

Which deity are you advocating for? There are tens of thousands after all; Can you be more precise?

Jesus, those other tens and thousands are the reason so many people have lost their faith. There has always only been one.

I assumed you were advocating for Yahweh but I had to make sure because two of the three abrahamic religions are pretty hardcore when it comes to conversion (Christianity and Islam) and there are many non-Abrahamic religious folk that should have their beliefs respected.

I rejected Yahweh (baby jesus) as an ideology a long time ago; I respect your choice to worship Yahweh so please respect my choice to not worship Yahweh or any ofther deity...after all, isn't that what free will is about? :)

Total respect. I have never tried to convert anyone into anything, i just like to share my own experience and show people what a relationship with god is like! I haven't spent any time studying any religions, but no one can deny the fact that what the bible teaches is true and proven, scientifically and spiritually.

I respect your right to your belirfs. I will also apologize for the atheists that want your rights restricted; Most atheists don't care about how other people practice their faith unless it infringes and intrudes on others rights. I know your desire to save my soul is based on a deeply held belief, I was raised in an evangelical household and my sister has a theology degree from Liberty University...:)

we had another retiree pass away the month he was supposed to collect his first retirement cheque
