Do new Mustangs have timing belts?

But a belt can be replaced by any shade tree mechanic for cheap. My timing chain had to be replaced and it cost me damn near $1000.

I can identify with the reasoning here. You were definitely born in the south.

Chains are stronger (pretty good feature on a powerful engine) and less resistant to slipping and/or coming out of adjustment. However, they do stretch over time and when they have to be replaced, they are very expensive.

One other important thing you are leaving out. Timing chains transfer alot of vibration to you top end were as belt absorb alot to the vibration causing less wear. I personally like chains regardless of the facts. Just my 2 cents.
