Do new Mustangs have timing belts?

This is a dumb question but I'm pretty darn ignorant about cars. Somebody help me out. My girlfriend has a '99 and she says they don't. If that's the case, what the hell do they use?

Not sure about belts, but I do know they sell those rag things that go behind a mustang, they are so no mustang crap ends up on the road. You ever see them when you go for a horse and buggy ride??

Let's see a 99 would be a 4.6 sohc so yes it would have a timing belt......the old 5.0's had chains.

Belts, what a waste. A chain will last you alot longer than a piece of shit belt that has to be replaced at 60k.

But a belt can be replaced by any shade tree mechanic for cheap. My timing chain had to be replaced and it cost me damn near $1000.

the steps involved in changing a timing belt and a chain would be the same - I don't see why one would be more work than the other, except the chain needs lube. you might be thinking about alt/ac/fan belts instead.

Nope, thinking about a timing chain. The Toyota dealership charges about $150 to replace a timing belt. They charge about $1000 for a timing chain.
