If I may Hanz, I would like to give a shot @ this.
Poland was not always Poland. Austria was not always Austria.
Countries, Nations, and most importnatly boundaries have differentiated numerous times throughout civilization development. What is now Poland could have been the Austro-Hungarian empire at one point. It could have been the Urkaine at another. It became Poland much later in civilization.
That is a basic fundamental review.
For example;
If a person says they are ; Polish, Austrian, Ukranian, or Hungarian.
This means that they could be any one or a mix. Unless you have geneological documentation to prove otherwise. That person is a mix of those four countries/nationalities.
I do have the documentation to prove my Polish and German heritage going back into the 1600's.
