Do any of you collect knives? I don't, but I got a Benchmade butterfly knife today.

i thought they were only illegal at certain sizes,i got one at the local ranger surplus store...

but then again they also sell brass nuckles there as "paper weights"

The irony is that I have a pair of brass knuckles my brother siezed from some assplant, and I have always used them as a paper weight... haha...

They sit on my receipts that I need to expense...

the reason automatic knives / switchblades were banned were because of the same stupid, illogical, 'for the children' arguments that people use to ban certain types of firearms.

'BUT THE CHILDREN'

Is used for a hell of alot more than guns / knives.. it is the single most abused arguement and it's almost always lame...

i use them more than collect them, and truth is ive had more cheap nasty knives than brand names. same same same so long as you have a sharpener and you go for a decent metal (H-1 at least unless you go for anti corrosion stuff)

spyderco are innovative and make good stuff, but have gone chinese as per about...12 months ago? they had some dramas with the H-1 stainless spec in their blades. theyve also recently jumped into bed with walmart i believe, and so might see a drop in quality

benchmade always seemed good but along with almost every production line type company, the price went up as batch size went down, not neccessarily as quality went up

a knife discussion on ef. who would have thunk it lol

Military are allowed to carry automatic knives. The closest thing a civilian can get is the "torsion bar" knives that are semi-automatic. Butterfly knives are illegal as well to carry. But yeah Balisongs are bad ass knives.
It varies from state to state. When I had butterfly knives, I lived in florida and I looked up that statute to determine that mine were LEGAL under florida law. It has been many years ago, but I think Florida allows concealed knives so long as they are not over 4 or 4 1/2 inches long from hilt to blade tip and so long as it is not a switchblade type. That is my recollection, but I was certain of their legality before I started purchasing them.

Each state is different.
