OK I've taken 5 shots.. and have not used isopropyl alcohol on all of them. Most recently I took a shot and lathered my ass with alcohol (70% was all that was in the house) And DAMN did my ass hurt. Does this happen to any one else ? Maybe the alcohol went in with the needle to make more pain ? ugh ...

My ass hurts like a mutha from a shot a few days ago as we speak. I think I as well fucked up with the alcohol. Man alive, that's painful shit though, huh? My ass is all swollen as well but those are teh only symptoms.

I don't think alcohol has anything to do with the pain. Alcohol evaporates extremely fast once applied onto the skin!

BTW you should ALWAYS use alcohol to desinfect the inj. area.

I myself am no expert, but when this sort of subject came up before, a few of the more respected vets claimed that swabing the inj site before shooting really doesn't matter since the alchohol doesn't have enough time to disinfect to any great degree.

As we all know, some bros just stick n' go.

Any opinions?

I disagree, if that was true than they wouldn't use iodine or alcohol in hospitals. I was in the hospital a lot as a kid and recieved 13 shots one day( I will never forget that day), every time they swabbed down my skin. Also, when I got my first infection it was from not swabbing, now I have been shooting everyday with this cycle(fina & sust) and I have not had any probs. But I use 91% alcohol before and after inj. After your first infection you become real careful.

Do you really want to take that chance?? Here is a quote from the EPA website:

"Isopropyl alcohol, also known as isopropanol, is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor. It is highly flammable. Isopropyl alcohol is found in alcohol sponges, cleaning agents, and rubbing alcohol (though some rubbing alcohols contain ethanol), and is a good disinfectant. Most rubbing alcohol contains 70% isopropyl alcohol. Poisoning can occur through skin absorption, oral ingestion, or inhalation. "

You should absolutely swab the area to be injected before!!!! As far a Isopropyl Alcohol causing pain, this is very possible. If you swab and inject with little time between the two you run the risk of pushing very small amounts of the alcohol in with the needle, which can be very irratating. Thats why in many posts you will see many people swab and then wait 30 seconds for the alcohol to fully evaporate, before injecting...
