Dips?

I do them with elbows in for my triceps. I feel that elbows out recruits more chest and maybe some more back. With the elbows in, i feel that the emphasis is put on triceps.

I think it also has to do with how much you lean. If you are strait up and down i think it really hammers the tris. But if you lean forward a lot, you are gonna recruit more chest.

Thanks bro.

the problem is, i had extrememly strong tricepts, and it is very difficult for me to do dips and feel it in my chest. I know dips are an amazing mass builder if done properly. I stayed away from dips for such a long time. i think its time to rediscover it.

When i do them (to hit chest) i put chin in, lean way forward, elbows out and go deep and up all the way shy of lockout. Sound about right?

Also has anyone tried Dips with your grip in a BB bench press position? so horizontal, not vertical grip?

jm, I was just about to say exactly that. For chest, I just tuck my chin and lean forward. For tris I stay upright with traps squeezed just like I'm benching. Either way I keep my elbows in.

I prefer my elbows to be out just a bit. When they are close together it doesn't feel natural as I feel pain in the shoulders and inner sternum.

Thanks Spatts and LS. ill keep working on it. Its to a point where when i cant feel my chest working, its a mechanical thing for me. but we'll see i guess:)

cheers.

Same here. I'd love to do more dips, but I have this same problem. So I have to center my tri work around close grip bench. JM-have you done them?
