Dips for chest

Is there a way to perform dips to focus more on chest than tris?
Right now I have my elbows out as much as possible and I lean forward a little. I dip pretty low, definitely past 90 degrees.
Any tips?

have somebody grab your feet and pull them backwards , This way the dipping will mimic decline benchpress action

Also I like to do flat dumbell flyes or cable cross supersetted with dips to get a better feel in the pecs from dips

Cross your feet and put them behind you (not in front or straight down). This is the way that I like to do them.

I also went wide and put my elbows as directly out as I could (as long as it didn't kill my elbows).

Like gl said, elbows out for chest. And like vortexx said, lean forward to simulate a press movement. If you can get someone to hold your feet back, so much the better. But if not, just make sure you're leaning forward on the excercise and you will benefit.

...and don't go past 90...a few weeks of dipping to far and you'll get a wicked tondonitis in the area of your pecs/delts.....you won;t be able to bench, dip, military...you'll be pissed at yourself.

otherwise as above

Not sure if going past 90 is gonna guarantee tendonitis. But 90 is a good range all the same. I don't see much reason to go beyond it.

You need a V shaped set of bars and a wide angle too. I used to do em at home on the corner of a fence :)

Think of the dip as a decline bench press and then you'll get an idea of how it should be done

I tap my shoulders on the bars at bottom. Always have. Its never effected my pec/delt area in any negative way.

Not to sound negative but I dont like dips because they dont help my bench press at all and I get minor shoulder problems when I go too low. So I ditched dips over a year ago. I guess for bodybuilders they are fine as long as they dont cause shoulder problems.

Ive only been doing them for the last 3 weeks, and my flat press (which had plateaued) has gone up.
Think I'll stick to 90 degrees tho.

Thanks for the answers, all.

Sounds like dips are working well for you-thats good.

Powerlifters dumped the dips awhile back because it didnt seem to do much for the bench press specifically.

I did dip lockouts with extra weight attatched and it didnt work for me. I guess some people have more sucess with certian movements than others.

Dips are excellent for the chest!!!

All I can say is lean forward, keep your elbows tight, and lower yourself to a parallel position.
