Dilemma: Lightweight or Middleweight

SAF

New member
As some of you know, I'm preparing for a competition in NYC on June 8th. Everything has been going fine. I'm currently 175lbs and pretty damn solid. I'm not holding any water due to all the Arimidex I'm taking. Some of you have seen my pics so I dont need to get into what I look like.

Anyway, my problem is that I'm stuck in a "gray" area where I'm forced to make a decision. I can either enter the show as a lightweight or a middle wieght. If I decide to enter as a middleweight, then I'll probably be the lightest middleweight in my class, which is not a good idea since the heavier middleweights will have a better chance of beating me. Now, if I decide to enter as a lightweight, that would mean stripping down to 150lbs! The top of the lightweight class is somewhere around 155, I think, but I would need to strip down to 150lbs in order to accomodate for a few pounds I may add on during carb-loading. Now, the problem with this scenario is that there is no way in hell that I can lose 25lbs without sacrificing muscle. For those of you that have seen my pics from last summer, and believe me I dont look much different now (just slightly larger) I think you would agree that there is no way I'm holding 25lbs of water and fat.

I'm concerned about this because I need to make a decision soon because it will affect my diet, among other things.

I remember your pics. No way you can enter at 150 bro, you would have to loose alot of muscle since you didnt have fat at all. I would try and shoot for the middle weights and even if you loose fuck it, this aint gonna be your last show (right?) so there is always more time to get heavier and improve. Take this show as a learning experience instead, and by that being said BTW dosent mean youll loose. Look at Shawn Ray going against guys who are 50 pounds heavier than him and places pretty well. I agree. Plus, even if you could lose 25lbs of muscle, it would be horrible psychologically, thats a lot of work, even with roids.

I agree with IronBarbarian, you shouldn't drop muscle mass just to get into the lightweight class. I would just try to be a full and hard middleweight and not worry too much about where in the class you fall. Holding onto that muscle will benefit you in the long run too.

yeah, that's what I was thinking. I dont want to even think about what I might look like at 150! Screw that shit! Fuck it, I'll just go in as a middle weight and have fun.

no...go in as a middleweight to WIN...lose as much BF as possible...get yourself SHREDDED and challenge yourself...you will have the upper hand due to your sharpness...beleive me,getting shredded (and you know what i'm talking about) usually takes the show...

good luck winnning whichever class you choose, SAF! it's pay-off time for all your hard work.

Don't sacrifice muscle unless you really need to be 5-10lbs less to make a weight class... unless it is a sure thing never lose muscle for a weight class...just show up at your best regardless of the
weight and you will look your best no matter who is in your class.

cheers...
