Difference between hang and power cleans?

from zero

New member
I forget, but I wanna make sure of what I had done tonight:

Started with the weight on the floor, sort of speed deadlifted it up. With all the force, and with assistance from my hams, glutes, back, traps ... everything ... was able to get it to about chest high, and I got my arms under it, like a front squat position, and then stood up with it. I squatted down maybe 6 inches.

This is a power clean, right?

need video brolio

power cleans are begun from the floor.

hang cleans start with a power clean and than start from the knee or a little below for the consecutive reps.

Hmm.

Maybe it was a combination of the two, lol.

Next time I do them, I'll try to take a video. Somehow. (I don't have a camera ...). Maybe next time I workout with jerkbox I'll throw some in for the hell of it.

Hang cleans are when you are doing multiple reps... you don't lower the weight to the ground, you only lower to your knee level than clean it for the next rep.

check out the link I edited in.

was it like that brolio?

That's brilliant! Why didnt I think of searching for that? Haha.

Yeah, it was like that, except

(1) About 1/1,000,000,000th that weight.
(2) I didn't drop that low. I only squatted down about 6 inches.

You work, buy one.

:lmao: Awesome.....

From Zero> My understanding is:

A power clean has minimul, if any, squat to it.

A full clean has a full front squat after you catch the bar.

A hang clean starts from hip height, and there is a minimul, if any, squat when you catch it.

From what you described, it sounds like you did a combination of a full and a power clean.

Maybe CCJ will chime in here and give his thoughts.
